A veteran remembers

Recommended Posts

This past May, our youngest veteran son was graduating from Belmont University in Nashville. He was wrestling with “walking” with his class, or just picking up the diploma in the office.

A week before he decided to “walk”, and we scrambled to find an Air BnB.

As we met up with him after the ceremony he looked me in the eye and said, “Grandpa walked with me.” I knew he meant my dad and I smiled. He knew I was a bit confused so he reached under his gown and pulled out my dad’s dog tag that he wore around his neck. US 55238752 did indeed walk with his grandson.

Before we left for Nashville, I told him to savor every minute of the ceremony because this day was all about him. Apparently he had a better idea.

Not a dry eye around.
