Forty Rod SASS 3935
I'm going to a birthday banquet tonight, sponsored by the Marine Corps League "Copper State" Detachment #906. The first one I've been to since 1978 on the Queen Mary in Long Beach . My parents were able to attend, the only one they ever went to. The guest speakers were John Russell (an actor of "Lawman" fame and a very nice man.) and John McCain, a former POW in 'Nam and later a U.S Senator from Arizona. I don't remember him mjuch at all. Many of the attendees tonight will be in uniform, but all I have left of my uniforms is a gold necktie bar. I'll wear it...proudly. The event has been advertised as a "semi-formal" affair. I asked a Sergeant Major...who is our Guest of Honor tonight...what that meant. he said "Shirt and shoes, and we'd appreciate it if you wear pants, too." All of my Marine brothers and sisters should have a chance to celebrate this day in some way, even if it's alone. God bless them one and all. Happy Birthday and Semper Fidelis. 1
