Sedalia Dave Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Sure wish a couple of those had been activated for the Texas Panhandle fires this spring. The largest of the three fires burned over 900,000 acres in 72 hours. Had they deployed air tankers on day two maybe just maybe they could have prevented the worst of it.
Yul Lose Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 In September of 1987 a friend of mine was flying a plane dropping fire retardant on a fire and the plane crashed killing him, Charlie Peterson and a couple of others. He was the youngest of 3 brothers from a Wyoming ranching family. I remember the day we got that news.

According to my son, those grass and scrub fires spread at lightning speed. I don’t think they could have marshaled and deployed enough retardant fast enough to have made a difference. ☹️
