Subdeacon Joe Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 https://update.lib.berkeley.edu/2020/12/07/plano-del-puerto-de-sn-francisco-situado-por-los-37-grs-53-mins-de-latitud-septentrional-1776/ The most wonderful nautical chart of San Francisco Bay is the very first one that was ever made, in 1776. A manuscript map, pen-and-ink and watercolor. Attributed to José de Cañizares, a Spanish naval officer. Cañizares was an ensign on Juan Manuel de Ayala’s ship, the packet boat San Carlos, i.e. a transport.
Sedalia Dave Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 Bet it took quite a while take all those soundings and just a long if not longer to draw the map.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 Much of it has been filled in? Similar to Boston, New York, and I imagine many other places.
