Preacherman Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Nuts! Not good for me, the week off between Mississippi and Tennessee. They've been back to back before. Quote
Captain Bill Burt Posted November 1, 2024 Author Posted November 1, 2024 There will likely be a 5th Saturday match at the TN Mountain Marauders in that gap week. They put on a good match and draw a good sized crowd. Quote
Captain Bill Burt Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 We already have three Classic Cowboys, we need at least one more, preferably two. 1 Quote
Captain Bill Burt Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 The applications are coming in! We’re at 35 shooters already. I plan on ordering buckles early, so get your apps in. We need more All Around Cowboys (remember you can combine this with a traditional category) Classic Cowboys, Cowgirls, Lady Gunfighters, Outlaws and B-Western shooters to fill these categories. If you decide to try All Around Cowboy (I am) remember you can shoot 3 matches in three different shooting styles to qualify, or you can shoot three matches in your typical category then two additional matches with different shooting styles and you’re qualified for two buckles. I plan on shooting FL State duelist and KY State gunfighter, then SC, AL, GA and TN Senior. 2 Quote

Florida - Last Stand April 3-6th South Carolina - The Bushwhack April 10-12th. Kentucky - Shootout in the Hills April 24-26th Alabama - Shootout at Cavern Cove May 1-3rd. (Same weekend as Delaware State) Georgia - Stampede at South River May 15th - 17th. Mississippi - Smoking Guns at Rabbit Ridge May 23rd-May 26th. (Same weekend as Pennsylvania State) Tennessee - The Reckoning June 5-7th. (Same weekend as Maryland State being run by some fool named Dogmeat Dad! ) Hopefully, you guys can keep this running a couple more years until Holli retires, then we can shoot them all and add 4 new states to our travel map to boot! You only need three to compete! Looks like you’re set for Florida and South Carolina, so if you can make either Georgia or Kentucky work that’s enough! The first two years we averaged right at 60 shooters. This year I’m thinking we’ll get 70+. As long as we continue to get that level of participation I will continue to organize the competition! 1 Quote

Holli's work schedule is set 6-12 months in advance, and with many of these matches running Friday Saturday, that means we need to schedule it way in advance. We can squeak by on a few of the Sat/Sun matches by skipping side-match day, driving in Friday night, and driving back Sunday after the match, but it is a scramble. But, I will begin planning for 2026 and see if we can squeeze in one of these other matches into the schedule. We will start the scheduling process for the first half of 2026 in just a few months. Dang will I be glad when she retires! (I think, maybe...but I suspect that "Honey Do" list is going to get painful and become unavoidable, and quickly! ) 1 Quote
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 So how many shooters do you have now and which categories have made so far? Quote

We are up to 44 shooters! Of course we have the top man and top lady, then we have our 'standard' categories: Cowboy, Cowgirl, Gunfighter, Duelist, Frontier Cartridge, All Around (Cowgirl/boy), Senior, Elder Statesman, and Grand Dame. These are based on both who has already signed up and who I'm pretty sure will be signing up based on the last two years. Then we have: Frontiersman and Lady Wrangler which already have enough shooters to be added. I anticipate adding Classic Cowboy as I only need one more, a young gun category of some kind, and Outlaw. I also have shooters asking for 49er, Silver Senior, BWestern, and Ladies BWestern, but I only have one of each signed up for each of those, so we'll see. I've already signed up for the Bushwhack as a Senior and sent in my application to the Last Stand as a Duelist. I'm thinking Kentucky I'll shoot Senior, then Alabama Senior, then I might just shoot Georgia Gunfighter. After that I don't know yet. 1 1 Quote

Captain Bill Burt Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 Entries have slowed down a bit. We're at 48 as of today. I plan on ordering buckles February 1st, so I'll make the final determination on categories at that time. I'm surprised to say that we do not have any duelists signed up yet, so if that doesn't change we will drop that category and add something else. T-Square Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) Capt Bill - will you publish the list of categories when you have them set? I think you said we have enough shooters for Frontiersmen, but I got lost in the thread above regarding FCGF and Frontiersmen Gunfighter..... I'm not asking for the list of shooters - so you don't have Gamers switching categories. I've registered for the Paradise Pass Fire & Brimstone - and they have Pale Rider Gunfighter ! What a great way to burn a lot of real black powder ! I hope our weather gets better soon, I need to get out and start practicing ! And what do you think about starting a thread for shooters to list which matches they plan to shoot? Minimum of three, right?! Edited January 19 by T-Square Quote

Captain Bill Burt Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 I hope we will get more signed up. It’s still pretty early. When it’s time to order I will spend all the entry fees I got buying buckles ranked by how many signed up. Any folks whose categories didn’t fill will be contacted and given the option of another category (age based?) or a refund. I’m surprised right now because sign ups are going pretty much the way they have in the past except zero duelists and only 1 outlaw and 1 frontier cartridge. In the past we had plenty of all three. 1 hour ago, The Revenuer said: What is the option if no more frontier cartridge sign up? That is the only category I shoot. 1 Quote

Cahawbakid Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I think Frontiersman has impacted Duelist and Frontier Cartridge. Just a theory, Cpt Burt has the data and can answer that question best 1 1 Quote
Captain Bill Burt Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 (edited) The success of Frontiersman has definitely impacted Frontier Cartridge, so that mystery is solved. Right now the ten categories I mentioned are for sure, and even if no additional people sign up I will have the funds for two additional categories (once all the State matches sponsorship money gets here). Those categories will be selected based on the number of competitors that are signed up. Full transparency these awards as well as match pins and clean match pins are funded by your match fees of $20, the State Match’s sponsor us for $80 each, and SASS has already purchased the Top Man and Top Lady awards. When those two come in I will post pictures. I operate this thing on a shoe string because I’m determined to keep the entry fee low at $20 as I know that the cost of attending the matches themselves is significant. We have 1 person each signed up in the following categories: Silver Senior (may be rolled into Senior) Outlaw, Junior Boy, B-Western, L. B-Western, Frontier Cartridge, and 49er (may be rolled into Cowboy). I already have the match pins and the clean match pins. If you’re interested and have questions please contact me. Edit-I got a shipping notice from Molly’s this morning. The Top Man and Top Lady buckles will be here tomorrow. Thank you SASS!! Edited January 21 by Captain Bill Burt 2 2 Quote
