Brass pistol sight covers

I have the slide on brass pistol site covers for a pair of New Vaqueros.  I was wondering if I should file the sites and then file the bottom of the brass covers so they line up square or do people just use the sites as is

Personally, I do not file the sights. For our game I don’t believe it’s necessary. I also get a sense that folks are not willing to pay as much for a gun that the sights have been filed when it comes time for resale.

I did just like you mentioned. I first sighted in the pistols with my favorite load, then took material off the bottom of the brass hood so it would be the correct height. Then I took some more material off the original front sight so the brass hood sat down flush on the barrel.

Easiest to just fit them on to the site , THEN file from the top down to the original blade. Worked for me.

Ok.. reckon I’m the Lone Ranger here..

If you have the full cover On Target Sights that I offer, you would file the brass from the BOTTOM… then install. The finish and radius is so nice - and there is not a lot of material on the top. Better to remove from the bottom.

Learned that! Now have to save some coins to get another and try again. Need a “sheepish” smiley emoji!
