Howdy folks! I normally clean my guns when I get home from the match using PAM.

This month due to another commitment I might not be able to clean them for 2 days. Does anyone wait this long before cleaning after a 5 stage match using APP??

If I have to I could shoot that newfangled smokeless powder to avoid a possible problem.

As long as you are not shooting in the rain or extremely high humidity environment, all you need to do is wipe them down and then apply a generous amount of Ballistol inside and out.

Store is a dry environment and you'll be fine.

What Dave said.  I shoot more real BP than APP, but with either I spray inside and out with Ballistol after shooting and then clean them "whenever".  App is particularly hard on brass, so if you shoot a '66 wipe it down good.

One time, l let my guns sit for 5 months after shooting real black, and APP!!

Forgot to clean them!

Recently, was a two day drive back home after Land Run, and had to wait another two days before I had a chance to clean them.....no issues.

I shoot APP exclusively.  Normally I clean the guns with PAM.  I DON'T LIKE Balistol for anything except softening stiff leather boots.  I often don't clean the guns for two or three days.  No troubles unless your shooting in wet/damp weather or store you guns in high humidity.  I also drag all the brass home dry inna bag and dump it inna small pail with warm water and a goodly amount of 45% White vinegar then rinse.

I don't clean guns immediately after firing either APP or Triple Seven.  However, brass gets washed soon as it tarnishes quickly.  Disclaimer: I live and shoot primary in a dry climate.

I don't clean for a few days sometimes.

Spray and wipe with wet  rag of  ballastol .

Zero issues in 10 years now exclusively shooting APP.

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about Balistol?

What is APP? I just got in to black powder cartridges, and my 45 Colt brass stays pretty gunky. Suggestions for cleaning them? I dry tumble in an old Frankford Arsenal tumbler with some brass polish.

I wait all the time! I will run a patch down the barrel of my rifle, spray all the guns with Ballistol and wait til I get home. Sometimes it’s up to 4-5 days. No worries!

Put your brass in a bottle or water and dawn while at the match - you want to neutralize the ph. Bring home.m, rinse well, dry and then dry tumble if you want to polish. BEWARE!! You MUST be 100% Sure your brass is dry before tumbling.

Hugs!!

Thank you very much. I only use real black, and have actually branched out into making my own as well. I appreciate the info!

It’s an acquired “taste”…. The smell.  But @Colorado Coffinmaker is dead on about using it on leather! It’s great to clean boots, etc and safe for wood, too. !

Burn Through said that "i can not stand the smell of ballistol  if i see it I run away "

Sooooooo that sounds like a good Burn Through repellant, just a dab behind the ear, Ballistol that is! Ha ha...........

If you shoot real BP or subs and want clean brass get yourself a Frankford Arsenal wet tumbler.

Added benefit is that wet tumbling significantly reduces your exposure to lead.

Hi there Jake.  I don't really feel the need to explain my prejudices.

I didn't mean to imply anything negative to your opinion.  I just wanted to know if there was something I should look out for.

I also can't stand the licorice smell of Ballistol, it literally takes my breath away and I can't breathe.  But I still use it for everything, smokeless and BP, and just make sure I have a fan going when cleaning indoors.
