Winchester Model 70 problem

I purchased a Model 70 heavy barrel 308 at the Comin at Cha barn sale and did not notice at the time the safety will not engage. The rifle is stuck on fire! anybody had this problem or know what I need to do? Irish ☘️ Pat

You might check recalls.  There is not a lot of complexity - though I would hesitate on taking the bolt apart..  Pull the action out of the stock and see what you can see.  Search this for basics Winchester Model 70 safety issues and there is more.

This may seem obvious, but have you cocked it and tried? Mine will only go into safe mode if cocked.
