Alpo Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Is that full size or is it a scale down model? Doesn't look like you could get too many crew in there. Also, it seems like there was a whole lot of welding going on. My understanding is that World War I they were pretty much all riveted together. That way when they took a good solid hit the rivets broke loose and flew around on the inside and killed more people than the shell did.
Subdeacon Joe Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 Yeah, they were riveted. And made of thicker steel. They didn't need to be all that big: Mass 6.5 tonnes (6.4 long tons; 7.2 short tons) Length 5.00 m (16 ft 5 in) Width 1.74 m (5 ft 9 in) Height 2.14 m (7 ft 0 in) Crew 2 (commander, driver) Still, not a bad for a home built.
Alpo Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Yeah I figured he wasn't building it out of armor plate. I did not realize it only had a crew of two. It's an impressive job.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 That would be fun, but I'd rig it with a modern engine small enough to fit and powerful enough to get it up to about 5-8 mph...maybe a Mazda or something similar.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Can you put a potato gun on it?
