Chantry Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 And no, I'm not referring to Star Wars. In addition to the numerous Indian and Gurkha regiments that were part of the British Indian Army there were also Imperial Service Troops which were units raised by many of the independent states within British India. Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Service_Troops Most IST units that saw combat fought well and some fought very well, like the Jodhpore Imperial Service Lancers. https://www.dailyo.in/variety/the-story-of-jodhpur-lancers-1885-1952-book-extract-army-british-india-26959 The closest the U.S. has to the former Imperial Service Troops would be the various State Guard units found in some states like, CT, FL, TX and I think CA.
