Bladesmith, SASS 113085 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I found this interesting carbine in 44-40. It appears to be made by Uberti in 1974 and imported by J. L. Galef & Sons. The internet suggests they imported a number of items aside from firearms, but there seems to very little information about the company. Just curious if anyone has one of the guns they brought in or knows any interesting bits of info about the company. Bladesmith
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 They are just an importer, and there have been many over the years. Revolving Carbines are not legal for SASS, but are really fun to shoot. Just watch out where you put your left hand! --Dawg
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Looks like they imported guns from Italy & Spain. I found this information on them: J.L. Galef & Son, Inc. Dept. TMEN 85 Chambers Street New York, New York 10007 J L Galef liquidated its entire business in 1983.
Bladesmith, SASS 113085 Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 Thanks @Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329. Interestingly, it has a wood forearm and brass bands that can be installed on the barrel, but I feel like you’d have to be very careful with your positioning to use it. I’ve seen other versions that have a spur on the trigger guard to hook your off hand on, that might be something to swap out. I thought there might be a side match sometime it could make an appearance in, but really just thought it looked like fun.

Those, Spencers and other unusual/oddball fun guns!
Three Foot Johnson Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 The stock looks much more usable than what Uberti puts on them today.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Every time I watch Lonesome Dove, & see Gavan O'Herlihy as bad guy Dan Suggs shooting his revolving carbine, I want to run out and buy one. I did that a coupla times, but sold them cuz you can't use 'em in SASS, and my budget won't allow guns that don't get shot. The ARE fun though. I've had them in both BP and cartridge versions. And the brass triggerguard with the spur does give you a convenient place for your hand while shooting! --Dawg

I’m about to finish the last book in the series and may or may not have switched my political affiliations.
watab kid Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 ive not changed my political affiliations in the last 60+ years , and i woint be in the future , im not interested in communism in the least save to put it out of our lives so we can prosper , i do have a heritage vesion of these , its my only investment in heritage and i felt i needed one as long as it was 22 LR , it shoots fine but im not impressed with the whole idea of a revolver rifle in the end , ill keep it as a novelty but not be looking for one of these gigger bore versions ,
Bladesmith, SASS 113085 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 I believe you might have missed the joke there @watab kid. There wasn’t any actual political connotations intended, unless Gus Mcrae and Woodrow Call are really on the ticket somewhere. In that case I believe I probably would vote for them, though I can’t imagine they would have any communist leanings….
watab kid Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 its just that everything is related to politics these days , or so it seems , id vote for them as well , if they were on the ticket i think , im fed up with current situation and politics in general .....drain the swamp please ..... plant some new crops and lets get a new crop of folks that care , but thanks for pointing that out , i probably did miss the point ,
J.D. Daily Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 It was the invention of mechanical refrigeration which lead to air conditioning that ruined federal politics.

Such is the nature of anything vaguely political these days. I bet most of us aspiring cowboys are more alike than different in the end.
