Opinions on Hammer Stops?

Talk to me about Hammer Stops. I have a new Vaquero and I see one can purchase hammer stops to prevent over travel. The included photo is from Shotgun Boogie’s site specifically.
 

I like tinkering with things so I’m a sucker for such things, even if the gain is small. Do folks use these much? How can I tell if I would benefit from adding them?

I like them. Easier to change out springs and can adjust the hammer stop. I have noticed the set screw can move. A bit of lock tite might help with that.

What stops the hammer from traveling backwards on a stock gun is the pawl pushing on the cylinder racthet.  On many guns if you twist the cylinder counterclockwise with your left hand and put rearward pressure on the cocked hammer with your right you can feel the pawl pushing on the ratchet.  If you are really aggressively slamming the hammer back this can cause wear to the pawl or ratchet.  There is usually no performance gain from adding the overtravel stop.  What you gain is potentially less wear.

I have always included over travel stops on on the Cap Guns I built for my customers.

I prefer the "FEEL" of a  POSITIVE hammer/action over-travel stop.

I have always enjoyed shooting the guns he has built for me, and hammer stops are one of the reasons.

maybe it’s just me, but the gun feels more solid.

Don’t get me wrong, the over-travel you feel on a factory-finished gun isn’t “bad”, but the hammer stops just make ‘em a bit more fun to shoot.
