Subdeacon Joe Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I would swear that I remember seeing BUFFs taking off from Marine Air Station El Toro in the early 1970s. I haven't been able to find information online about it, although one article from 1991 LA Times said that a B-52 was there for an air show. Do any of you know if B-52s flew out of there? As an aside, I came across the roundel that the Marines used in 1918.
PowderRiverCowboy Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 Yes we had a few fly in in the 8late 80's but more as stop overs/ refuels much like having fighter jets land at bomber base . Now we wont discuss the c130's combat landing and take off's on dark runways . Now if its a rabbit hole you seek Look up Colonel Sabow ( knew him and his brother )

Roy Goode - SASS 114620 Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I live by that airport and have for many years. I don't recall ever seeing a B52 other then during the air show.

NO sIr in fact very reasonable MCAS El Toro was a Major return point during Vietnam , also part of why based was closed and left empty and the buried Agent Orange there .
