Average Joe Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Hello everyone If you’re looking for the Cowboy Edge Taper Tool you can get one from one of our vendors. It’s designed to put just under a 3 degree taper at the end of your 12 ga shotgun shells. It aids both in feeding your shells and shucking them. 97 and side by side shooters have both seen great success using this in a game where hundredths of a second can make or break you. Available at these vendors: Red’s Specialties at GUNSMOKE this weekend. Palmetto Traveller is selling them at Kitty's Kloset at Ambush at Cavern Cove, the Southeast Regional Championship, October 3rd to the 5th. Johnny Meadows in Arizona has a few and you can pick one up at any shoot he attends. Boompop in Texas at Ten Horns, Lonestar Frontier Shooting Club, Old Fort Parker and Butterfield Trail Regulators. Muley will have a few with him at any shoot he attends. And always at Cowboyedge.com If you have any feedback on the tool, good or bad, you can reply here or email me at averagejoe@cowboyedge.com If you have any issue with any Cowboy Edge taper tool you’ve purchased from anyone please contact me. Thanks and shoot em up! Average Joe Lifetime SASS# 95515 3 1 Quote

Black Bart Sr Posted May 5 Posted May 5 If your using AA Winchester 12 gauge shotgun shells what range of time would be the best to use it? Is it best to use it the morning before the shoot, or a day, or two days, or a week before the shoot? I'm worried about it gradually going back to its original shape in time. Quote
Palmetto Traveller Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I have shells that were tapered weeks before the SE Regionals last year and they're still holding a taper now. I have buddies that taper the whole box the day before a match and then there's those like me that taper as I load my SG belt. I do it for the exposure so more people see them and it stirs interest in the product. Whichever you choose they hold their shape extremely well. 1 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I use the Quick loader taper tool and have found age of hulls seems to affect how long the taper lasts. My years old STS hulls have held for at least a month, although I usually do them a day or two before the match. Some of Ellie's loaded in the old one piece AAs have held the taper for over a year and look like I did them yesterday. 1 Quote

I do a lot of them ahead or time but I’ll re-taper at the stage if they open up too much. Most of mine are done on my cart right before I shoot. They start opening up immediately but it slows down fast. 1 Quote

I usually wipe my hulls with Ballistol and then taper them the morning of the match. However, I have seen left over hulls from the match still tapered at my next match which sometimes is 2 to 3 weeks later. You can't go wrong with it. TM 1 Quote
Black Bart Sr Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Texas Maverick, I never thought of wiping the hulls with Ballistol. I'll have to try that next time. Thanks for the tip! 1 Quote

I got a box of the wipes, it is easier to just open up the package and start wiping the hulls with the patch. I can make it through a couple of boxes before it starts to dry out. TM 1 Quote
watab kid Posted June 9 Posted June 9 sometimes adding additional steps to the process is not worth the effort ....just sayin , Quote

It does make it easier to put those round shells into the square holes in my shotgun. TM Quote

TM iget your point , i generally , if time and weather allow also clean my chambers one last time before starting a shoot , i didnt get to do that the past two days because of weather and accommodations but my shotgun worked fine most of the match , it was the revolvers that had two hickups i wasnt expecting , ill work on all of them before the next match , i hear ya on the square holes in the shotgun - the taper tool sounds a good investment i need to look into , 1 Quote
