El Sobrante Kid Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Are you asking a question about the ammo or the rifle, or just making a statement that you bought the rifle?
Griff Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I'm gonna guess that you bought yourself a Uberti copy of the Winchester 1866, which is a toggle link action. In which case DO NOT use any ammo marked as "HV" or High Veocityl
Phantom, SASS #54973 Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 ...why... Also, ref. Griff's post. Phantom

I think that is the most expensive (modern made) .44 ammo I've ever seen.
ORNERY OAF Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 The modern ubertis can handle bout any 44-40 factory out there...new gun better steel,no problems.
ORNERY OAF Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=578 I've shot this in myb18in 66 and 24in 73, shoots great
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 It isn't the steel, it is the brass that can stretch. I know one shooter who has stretched two Uberti '66's in 44-40. Shooting what, I don't know.

Abilene, what does that mean he stretched 2 ubertis, worn out the chamber , or stretcued the receiiver??or what? Serious question as I have never heard that term.

I can still attest that most 44-40 shooters still fail at understanding the difference between low pressure and high pressure loads...regardless of velocity. Using pistol powders to gain original velocities is not a good idea....but I preach to the wall. 13,000cup loads will not stretch "brass frames" under normal use....never have, never will

There's a Uberti Henry on the shelf at Cimarron that someone stretched with a hot load. When he found out how much it would cost to repair (new receiver) he said just keep it.

Wow, ok, I never knew that was possible, thanks

If you look around, those Winchester Jacketed hunting loads are nuts expensive! The price has literally doubled over night, from $75.00 per 50.
