New dog. Say hi to Rhyolite

Painted Lady and I lost Huckleberry Holliday; our long term dog a little while back.IMG_20191024_122841287-1.thumb.jpg.95372eef25a71d8d9d677b2b99b88f6b.jpg

To bone cancer of all things.

He had a good life and he knew he was loved - and as much as it hurt; we were able to let him go before his suffering became unfair.

But a house devoid of a dog is a sad and lonely space.

Painted Lady, Desert Scorpion and myself are supporters of an animal rescue not that far from our gunshop in Pahrump, NV and turns out they had received a litter of Yellow Lab/ Shepherd mix puppies; so "obviously" we HAD to go take a look at them...

A "look" indeed.

As I was attacked and over run by a ferocious pack of sweet puppies; the "Love at first sight" on Painted Lady's face pretty well sealed the deal and "Rhyolite" came home with us - 10 weeks old; floppy ears and big paws.

Yuma or Amarillo were also considered as names for the big guy - but Rhyolite is a ghost town here in Southern Nevada that we are very fond of and had personal meaning for us.

So a new addition to our home - say "Hi" to Rhyolite Ricochet.

Rhyolite making himself comfortable next to one of the pistol showcases in our shop.

Absoluye best breed in the world-RESCUE.....good on you and you family brother, best wishes !!!!!!!!

I fully admit; I love Shepherds and I looked at sellers online, "rehomers" on Craigslist and breeders.

My family raised German Shepherds for the Michigan State Police when I was a kid.

But even then - it offended me that "only" certain colors and markings were suitable for service and "off" or unusual marking disqualified perfect dogs.

So I grew up with these "cast offs" - yes, purebreds but sometimes with white or fawn colored coats AND I loved them all.

But I was a kid AND it was a different time; today I cannot in good conscience - pay a breeder when there are shelters full of perfect dogs going unhomed and unloved.

And yes selfishly; I passed by older dogs to find a puppy; because an older dog is just more likely to break my heart sooner and it just hurts too much to go thru that too often.

The word "rescue" is always interesting; yes, we provide shelter, food, security for dogs.

But rescue?

I think a dog provides much, much more to us than we can ever do for them; they make us better - they rescue our souls.
