Sedalia Dave
Received this from Rep Keith Self. Dear Friends, Thirteen servicemembers were posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest possible honor bestowed by Congress, in the Capitol Rotunda last Tuesday. Coral Doolittle, mother of Marine Cpl. Humberto Sanchez, said at the ceremony: “As Gold Star parents, our grief never truly ends. It changes, it transforms, but remains with us always. A big part of us died with our children on August 26, 2021. But we want everybody to know that ceremonies like this provide a small but meaningful breath of relief in our ongoing journey of grief, reminding us that we raised the best and brightest for this country." These soldiers, sailors, and Marines were assisting with the evacuation of American citizens and Afghan allies in the final days of President Biden's botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. Tragically, they were killed in a suicide bombing that also claimed the lives of over 170 Afghan civilians at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. Despite the chaos and danger surrounding the operation, they carried out their duties with unwavering courage. We must never forget their selfless actions in the midst of danger, gain inspiration from their acts of heroism and maintain hearts of gratitude for the sacrifice they made to preserve liberty.
