LOL!  I have a desk drawer full of those types of things, impedance charts, wave guide calculators, etc.  It's amazing what we were able to accomplish back before smartphones and laptops.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread.  Back to our regularly scheduled "Is It Now Yet?" comments!

Two Weeks To Go!

Man, time is flying by.  Seems like a thousand things keep popping up trying to derail this trip, but so far I have managed to fend of the onslaught.  Still a lot to do but the ammo is loaded, the guns have had that unholy smokeless powder residue scrubbed from them, and the rest of the Cowboy gear is ready to go.   Still need to do some Truck repairs as I REALLY don't want to take another trip in the Blue Breadbox (Prius).  We will do so if necessary, but I would much rather take the truck.

In typical Dogmeat Fashion, my dreams of making the drive to Florida the weekend before the match are going to get shelved and I will be driving down on Wednesday just before the Match with Holli flying into JAX that evening.  I will pick her up there and then onto the Hotel, or if traffic is rolling well, I may make it to the hotel first to check-in and unpack, then back to JAX to get her and then back to the hotel.  I sure do love those 900 mile, 14 hour, driving days!

Now, if I am really smart, I will lose my phone somewhere on the way so the universe can't find me!

As I sit here at my desk shuffling papers on a bright Sunday afternoon, when I should be outside working on my truck getting it ready for our upcoming trip, I think I finally figured out why getting everything ready seems more hectic this year than the normal Dogmeat Chaos Before The Trip hectic.  But before that, how about a little history of the Florida State Championship.  A few years ago, for reasons that escape me at the moment, I put together a listing of all of the Florida State Championships that had been held up to that time.  According to the information I had been able to gather, and updated to include the later matches, below is a listing of every Florida State Championship that has ever been held.  If someone has any additional information, please feel free to add it to this thread and I will update the listing.  (Updated with Santa Fe River Stan's New Info)

LastStandHistory-2025.JPG.ee174bda952e223d8166099bb4ebebcc.JPG

For the record, this will be the 17th Florida State Championship that Holli and I have attended, the first being in 2007, and we have attending every one since then with the exception of the two that were hosted by the Red Hills Rangers.  We didn't attend those not because of the location, or who was involved, but because of the time of year, Tax Time! :o  Bizarrely, I've shot more Florida State Championships than I have Maryland State Championships!  Mostly, this is because I was working as a Waddie up until 2008 and then when I started running the match in 2018, I found that I could either be a Good Match Director or a Mediocre Shooter, but I could just not do both at the same time.  (Some may argue I can't do either well at anytime...)

Now, I am NOT an accountant, Thank God! (no offense intended to those who are), but I do have lots of tax returns to file, both personal, business, and for several estates I am still trying to get closed, and that along with the normal quarterly Tax Filings that are due, it's just a very hectic and busy time of year.  I should make it, but I will certainly be tired when I get there.  See, I'm already making excuses for my inevitable slow stage times! :P

Regardless, I am looking forward to the match, and the SC State Match on our return trip.  It will certainly be a unique experience to be sitting at home on April 15th, and not be looking at the clock to see if I am going to make it to the Post Office (or Fed Ex) before they close!

And in just 10 Days, I will be in Florida!  Probably still on I95 heading towards Jacksonville, but I will be in Florida and Almost There!

OK, Break-time Is Over!  I'm Going Back In!

Thanks, and I suspect you are right.  Chuckaroo and I were talking about it and there were some grey areas from the olden days.  I didn't join this game until November 2002 so that's all Pre-History to me and Al Gore hadn't yet invented the internet back then so it's hard to verify information! :P

In just 4 Days, I will be throwing the last few items into the vehicle, brewing my coffee, and then last minute tasks before final departure.  There is a reasonable possibility that I will actually have the truck back on the road for the trip too.  My youngest son, Pyro Dex, helped me replace all of the worn out suspension components over the last two days and we located that pesky oil leak.  Hoping to get that fixed once the sun comes up today and then it will just need the final prep, checking fluids and air, cleaning windows, etc.  I plan to test drive it for the next few days and, if there are no problems, I will be loading the truck Tuesday evening when Holli gets home and then, hopefully, an early night in preparation for the Wednesday Drive!

I'm really starting the feel like....

The Truck Is Fixed, Finally!  It's been a year of issues with that thing, but it is all back together at last.  My back isn't too happy with me, but I will heal, and I have my truck back in service.  It's had reliability issues since Holli and I took it down to Florida last year for the Ides.  Put about 200 miles on it over the last two days, with no hiccups so, good Lord willing (Read My Tag Line...) it will get us there and back without issues.

Laundry is done, ammo is made, and we start packing  and getting everything staged in the garage for the final pack tomorrow night.  I am really looking forward to getting out of "DOGE" city!  The insanity around here is setting new levels of epic!

So, 48 Hours From Now, with a little luck and no major traffic issues on 95, I should have traversed the 780 miles from my house to the Hotel in Starke, be unpacking the truck, and preparing to head back north to JAX to pickup Holli, then back to the Hotel hopefully to go to bed early.  Worst case, if things are running slow, I will just hang our in the Cell Phone Lot in JAX until she lands.  Wish Me Luck!

I go wheels up Thursday morning.  I'm pretty much ready other than I need to chamber check my main match rounds, then it's gas up the Camaro and keep an eye out for smokies. Waze tells me it's about a 4 hour drive, which means I should be able to get there in about 3.5 hours.  Looks like my AirBnB is less than 4 miles from the range.

My wife and I pulled into Gainesville late this afternoon.  The Florida State Troopers were out in force on both I-10 and I-75.  There seemed to be speed traps at least every ten miles and many tickets were being written.  I was not in a hurry and did not speed.

Headed south this morning.  See you folks in a couple of days. Get out of this NE Ohio weather for a while.

Time to move south and ditch the nasty cold weather and snow.   Good you're coming, see you there.  Heading north to the range tomorrow morning.

Well, in typical Dogmeat Fashion, we made it, but the journey was anything but smooth!  The good news is that the Truck made the trip without incident. The bad news was Holli's flight.  She made it down safely, but if it was ever possible for an air-flight be a train-wreck, this was it!  :o

She was supposed to take off from BWI at 6:55pm and land in Jacksonville at 9:00pm.  I pulled out of my driveway at 7:30am with a planned arrival time at JAX at 8:00pm, giving me an hour cushion.  Well, at first they delayed her flight by 2 hours due to the incoming plane from Pittsburgh being delayed due to the storms.  Then they delayed the delayed flight for another 2+ hours because the crew flying the plane coming in from Pittsburgh had hit their flight limit for the day so they needed to get a new crew in to fly the plane from BWI to JAX.  She finally boarded the plane around 11:15pm and landed about 1:30am!

Well, I drove on past JAX to our Hotel in Starke, checked in, unpacked as much as I could, then climbed back in the truck for the hour drive back to JAX.  Pulled into the Cell Phone lot about midnight and took a nap while I was waiting for her plane to land.  I was BEAT!  Did I mention that I only got about 3 hours of sleep the night before the trip?  I had promised myself (and Holli) that I wasn't going to bring any work with me on this trip, and I just about made it.  Didn't get to bed until 3:00am the night before the drive and got up at 6:00am to do the final tasks before departure.  Good thing I know where all the rest stops are on I-95!  I guess I did actually manage to get in a pair of 30 minute naps on the way down, so I guess that counts! :P

We finally got to the hotel and into bed about 2:45 am.  Slept until about 7:00am, breakfast etc, then off to the range.  Got there about 10:00am.  Got checked in, unpacked and assembled the cart, did a little shopping, I even bought a saddle!  Still not sure how I am going to get that packed in the truck for the ride home!  Then we headed off down to the Derringer side match to help out a little bit (not that High Noon Henry didn't have everything completely under control) and play around a little bit with our derringer.

Anyway, it has been a long couple of days (well actually a long couple of weeks) but we are here and looking for a good couple of events.  We are off to bed early tonight, probably as soon as I post this, and I am looking forward to a full night's sleep for a change! B)

The range looks really good, and they did some really unique things and there are a lot of nice looking new prop people and decorations.  It is obvious that a lot of very talented folks put in a lot of hours getting ready for this match.  And Kudos to whomever came up with the State Flag poster idea, that was awesome.  Each state represented at the match had a poster with their state flag and the number of folks from that state identified on the poster.  I will try to post a picture of one tomorrow, assuming I remember I said that in the morning!    It was a really cool idea!

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Well, the match is complete while we wait for the banquet and awards.   What a great match.   The best stages and true southern hospitality at its finest.  The Last Stand Committee did an outstanding job.   You should put this on your calendar for next year.

That have emailed each shooter their personal scores but the match scores are not posted yet.

Spoiler alert...I Did Not Win The Match! :P  But I did shoot clean, if anybody shooting FCGF can be called clean. ;).  Maybe it's because Holli and I stayed at a Holiday inn Express during the match!

Overall, Holli and I had a great time, good stages, no gimmes, but no brain teasers or P traps.  Already looking forward to next year!

Congratulations to the Winners and Kudos to all of the match personnel.  Great Match, you guys poured your heart and soul into this one and it really showed.

What a fun match!! I enjoyed every minute of it, despite learning that shooting duelist is tough and affects every part of the stage, not just the pistols.

I’ll enjoy getting back to traditional in four days at the Bushwhack!!

It’s on my list for next year, was planning on going this year but “Stuff Happens “
