Don't drive I70 through Missouri if you can help it.

Besides the insane heavy traffic,  they are adding two more lanes statewide. They are rebuilding a lot of overpasses and bridges. Where they are not doing that, they are resurfacing or making repairs.  Choke down the lanes and have 60mph speed limit but is generally ignored.  It's a battle ground.  Plan another route is my advice.

Dang... I expected to see a story about some miscreant clocked at 170 mph, creating highway mayhem.  😯

MoDOT creates enough highway mayhem all by themselves.

You can't hardly swing a dead cat without running into road construction in my area. They are rebuilding the tri-level interchange just south of the Missouri River Bridge in Jefferson City.  Three major US highways tangle up at this location.  On the north side of the bridge, they are adding additional lanes. Also working on the overpass on that side. Detours, and lanes shut down. No way to avoid the mess. Of course,  no one wants to slow down or give any currency to other drivers.

Here in the PRK, I always laugh when they do a ton of work to add a single lane, when it is obvious more than a single lane is required.
Perhaps this is CalTrans job security.
Why do the job right the first time, when you can do it over again and again.

Crap!  We need to travel to Odessa next weekend from NE of St. Louis and I70 is the most direct route.  Guess I'd better be planning an alternate.

Look at I57 Cairo across into Missouri then I60 to Springfield, Missouri then up I65 to US50.  There is an interesting gun shop in Cabool, Missouri.

Missouri Gun Company.  This is their back room.

I sold the car that would do 170 long ago. It was a fun ride!

Never been to Missouri but I4 in Florida and I75 through Georgia have been under some form of construction ever since I was a kid. I call Georgia The State of Perpetual Road Contruction. The cops love the double fine "construction zones" that are 35 miles long with (maybe) 2 miles of construction.

Blue highways with non-franchise family owned cafes are more fun and enjoyable than the Interstates these days.

Thanks Warden but that’s pretty far out of the way.  Might have to look at a route north of STL.

North of St. Louis, there is 36 from Hannibal across to St. Joseph. It's like knowbody knows it's there.  Lots of history. Mark Twain at Hannibal to Jessy James and Pony Express in St. Joseph. Dino's Diner in Cameron, Mo.

How is the 12 miles of I-70 heading west towards Kansas from the I-435 intersection on the west edge of Kansas City?

Thanks,

BS
