Buy National Match ammo?

Can you buy military national match ammo on the open market?

 

Back in the mid 70s I found 30/06 national match ammo frequently. But by then the Army was using 7.62 NATO, and had no need for the 06. Surplusing it out made sense.

 

But since we are still using 7.62 NATO, do they surplus out the match ammo?

 

This is a plot point in a novel. That the only people that would have national match military ammo would be either the Army rifle team or Green Beret snipers.

 

And we all know how accurate authors are. I did a search to see if you could buy military national match. I could not find any. Lots of match ammunition, but none from military.

 

So does anyone know if this author actually got something correct, or if he's blowing it out his poop chute?

I took a trip over to the CMP site , 

I did NOT see any 308 or 30-06 , but I did not look very hard 

some time back I saw a wire bound of "68 Lake City , 06 , wish , I had bought it

You might look for the M118LR round ( what the Military contract called the newer 7.62 Long Range Sniper ammo
