La Sombra Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 @H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 That solves the long and short of it! La Sombra Quote
La Sombra Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Okay ignore the misspelling on the label. This photo of me was taken by the male costume wiz himself, Carlentini Kid. This was at the Southwest Regionals 2024, Hell on the Border. I portrayed a jimador, an agave field worker. Someone has to prep the agave pineapple for tequila. Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I am very happy that this forum is here! I will start with a negative - said this before, but I hate the word "costume" I wear an outfit, duds, clothing, garb, apparel. Figure skaters, dance recitals, and trick-or-treaters wear costumes. We are shooting an old west themed competition with an old or new west dress code. Can you imagine Doc saying to Wyatt: c'mon pard, the Clantons are waiting for us at the OK Corral, and Wyatt says, gimme a sec, I'm still putting on my costume? ...Hmm, ya know, I might call some of the B-western outfits "costumes" . Okay, rant over. As a firmly entrenched middle-of-the-pack shooter, I have always said that it is more important to look good than shoot good. At a monthly match you only shoot a few minutes, but you can look good for hours. Yes, I am a clothes horse. Lots of outfits - I don't like to wear the same one to the same club twice in a row, and rarely two weekends in a row. I like variety, same as with my guns. I like to look as authentic as possible, most of the time. A couple of my hats are a little more movie modern. While I try to look good, I'm not as sharp as some. When family members would see me in my duds after a match, they have asked "do you get a lot of compliments?" And I say, not really, I'm just average-looking at a match. Better than some, less than others. I do not enter costume contests, don't have enough detail for that, though I've gotten a couple of Best Shooter Costume awards. Earlier this year when my youtube channel hit a million subscribers, I decided I wanted a logo and to make stickers, so I came up with design you see below (Totes Magoats helped a LOT). There wasn't room to put "it's more important to look good ..." so I shortened it to Look Good, Shoot Good. Notice the Look Good is on top, though. 6 1 Quote

Wrangler Bob Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 In response to the word "costume" I was recently made aware of the term "regalia" to describe items/clothing worn to depict Native American's Powwow "dress". I think that could apply to us. My regalia is minimal at best [along with my shooting I might add], but as a former wrangler at a dude ranch and day work cattleman I dress the way I grew up. Far from period correct, but I sure have a lot of fun and meet some really great folks. 1 1 Quote

THIS ^^^^ My late wife was a Pow Wow dancer and calling their dance regalia a "costume" was considered a serious faux pas. 1 Quote
