H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 (edited) Moving this to here... I have always been impressed by people who go all out in their costuming. My own tends to be more minimal, but there is one getup that I like to trot out from time to time when I am feeling particularly silly. It's a variation of my normal getup, but I think you can see the humorous touches. I call this my "Sheriff Buntline" alternate persona . Obviously named for the guns I am using. The rather dumb looking straw hat, the backwards gunbelt, and the attempt at a confused expression all add up to... Well, something... I guess. And shooting these two pistols as a pair DOES cause a lot of people to do a double take and laugh. (Real Colts, .44 Special) Edited September 7, 2024 by H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 11 Quote

Able Sugar Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I love seeing all the different costumes and ideas. I kind of keep it simple and as low cost as possible. I haven’t sewn in years and admire all that sew their own. Although I don’t dress in period exact costumes, I try to keep it in the spirit of the game and have fun. My favorites are denim based but occasionally change it up.. Hope this isn’t too much. 8 2 Quote

Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 (edited) Lots of great looks so far! I was never great at backing up computers, and when two laptops died within 2 months, I lost a lot of pics. But here are some of my duds. I cannot figure out how to put a caption with each photo like Cowtown Scout did. So I'll try to put the descriptions here first, in order. 1. My very first CAS outfit, 1999. Cost me $100 including the boots (wrote an article about duds on the cheap, I can link it later). 2. In my younger rock'n'roll days, Captain Midnite was my stage name. I still like to wear black a lot. 3. I bought this shirt in Mexico in about 1968 and wear it every year for the July 4 matches. Still have the matching pants, but they haven't fit for about 35 years. 4. My mom found this awesome hand-made elk jacket at a bargain, and gave it to me. If it is too cold to stay warm in this, it is too cold to shoot. 5. When I worked for Cimarron I would wear a different outfit every day to Shot Show. Here with Bill Stout (R.I.P.) and Jamie Harvey. 6. An older banquet outfit. The shirt was my dad's, he wore it playing drums in a dance orchestra in the '60's. Vest was 5.99 at Thrift Town. 7 and 8. Lately I wear this outfit to shoot at annuals, so all I have to do is change the shirt and boots and I am in my banquet outfit. I found the matching striped shirt years after the pants and the sleeves are way too short, but not with leather cuffs! edit: as soon as I posted this, the site said this was post #42 in this forum. So that's a good sign. Edited October 10, 2024 by Abilene, SASS # 27489 7 1 Quote

Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Here's a few more. I figured out how to put text between pics now (that "Insert" button ) Bisbee Jackson and I knew that each other owned this shirt, but did not plan this. Except for the pants, almost twins! This is Mad Dog McCoy (the other one), from last week. I told him I was going to post it. He makes all his own clothes (and leather), so always has a unique look. This was today after the match, posing with Tha Kid (Lightning McQueen's son). Today was also my 25th anniversary since my 1st match and the weather was gorgeous! This outfit is typical of mine, cost-wise. The shirt was $10 from Dragon Hill Dave. Pants were $10 from Brushy Creek Bill. Hat (Eddy Brothers) was $22 on ebay and reshaped. Texas Jacks boots were more but I got them at their cost, as I was going to Shot Show with Cimarron and told Mike Harvey that my Buffalo Runners were too ragged and I needed a deal. I may have paid full price for the braces and wild rag. 8 Quote

Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Autumn around here has been 10-15 degrees above normal for some time. So the weather today being really nice was incentive enough to start wearing some black duds again! Here I am with Captain George Baylor and Kickshot at the Tejas Caballeros. 6 Quote
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 This page is starting to get slow to load from so many pics! Cowtown Scout and I were at the same match for the first time in ages, Gunfight at Gamble Gulch down in George West, TX. I think this is the furthest south annual match west of the Mississippi. The picture is backlit so not great, but here's the duds breakdown starting at top. Hat is a Beaver Brand bought used for $15 from Grouchy Spike, forgot my wildrag but this bandana matched, it was a freebie formerly owned by Starry Night. Shirt is a J.Peterson, they used to put these on a great sale and free shipping if it was your first purchase. Haven't seen that in a long time and their prices are ridiculously high otherwise. Vest was ebay, made in China. Pocket watch and chain was $5, used from Dragon Hill Dave (it only needed a battery), pants were on sale from Texas Jacks at EOT one year plus employee discount. Buffalo Runner boots were used from SASS Classifieds. Oh yeah, the cuffs were made by my friend Drew at Lone Star Leather and he gives me a discount. I definitely looked better than I shot for this match! Cowtown was 1st in Classic Cowboy. 5 Quote
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 (edited) Hey Abilene It was great to see you again. Thanks for the sticker "Look Good Shoot Good" about your YouTube channel. I just got through visiting it for the first time. Really liked the old 2001 and 2008 videos showing how the targets were back then. I started shooting in 2003 so I remember those days. Do not long for those small or far away targets at all.
