Uberti Henry advice

Recommended Posts

I just got a dream firearm-an Uberti Henry imported by Taylors-in 45lc and 18.5 inch bbl-very rare

It is a 2015 made gun

Questions-

It definitely is in "good" shape-and looks like it was fired a lot

Im not concerned about the cosmetics right now-I am interested in advice regarding the long central loading spring and the tab and the small cap at the end of the rifle-the parts seem very worn.  The "cap" gets loose.  How easily can they be replaced and are there smiths that specialize?

with thanks

You can replace the magazine spring yourself!  It’s the same spring as they use in the tube magazine guns. Get the stainless one.

The tab on the follower fits a little loose normally.  Unless you see evidence of abnormal wear or grooving, it should be fine.

The “cap” you speak of.  Can ya’ show us a picture??

To replace the spring, take a small screwdriver or a narrow blade of some sort and stick it into the spring at the muzzle end of the magazine. Slide your tool toward the receiver until the back of the spring clears the swivel portion of the mag assembly. Now swing the swivel like you’re going to reload and slowly let the spring and follower out of the magazine.  Now you can give the follower a thorough examination.  Just reverse the procedure to install your new spring and the follower.

Congratulations!
Henry Rifles are great rifles!
I've had several over the years, mostly in 44-40, but a couple in 45.

I still have 2, one in 44-40 & one in 45.
They are my favorite main match rifles.
I have no doubt that yule love yours!

PS -- Make yourself a spacer stick, so you don't have to do the "Henry Hop".

Hey Dawg, with an 18.5" barrel he isn't going to be able to fit the spacer stick!  More likely just needs to load the shortest rounds it will feed and/or use a custom carrier for short rounds.. ;)

OP Abilene has a point.  Hopefully, if you are planning on using the rife for SASS shooting, you realize you cannot get ten rounds of .45 Colt in an 18.5" Henry.

LONG GUN

YEP.  Your Knew-Two-Ewe 18 and half inch Henry Won't load 10 45 Colt rounds.  It will however, load 10 45 Schofield rounds, when the Schofield are loaded with nothing longer than a 200Gr RNFP.  I load 185Gr Coated from Bullets by Scarlett in mine.

The Follower/Thumb Button in a Henry normally rattles around just a bit.  You may also notice a little rubber baby buggy bumper in the cartridge end of the follower.  It doesn't do anything.  If it starts to wear, just cut it flush with the follower and don't worry about it.

There is a bunch of Toggle Link rifle speed parts available should be so inclined.  The Henry can be set yup to run very fast indeed.

Yep, yer right -- I didn't register the 18.5" part of his post.

I had an 18.5" in 45 once.

If I remember correctly, I was able to get 10 45 Colts in if I loaded with 160 grain bullets.
I eventually had Manatee modify the bolt a bit, and shot 45 Schofields in it.

The shorter barrel makes it handle really nice!
My current 45 Henry was built for me by my excellent gun-plummer, Coffinmaker

He set it up for 45 Cowboy Specials.
Wonderful gun!
