This past year the Showdown being held in conjunction with a State Championship caused some unintentional mixed feelings among non classic shooters. I have always referred to the CC Showdown as a "match inside a Match", just a way for a big group of classic shooters to get together and have a good time hanging out for a little competitive fun! I never meant it to cause any issues. I believe most of those being upset stem from the fact we award some nice custom Molly's Buckles for the Showdown, while the State Champions got a really neat 3" custom Silver/Gold Coin and plaque from the host club. (I think folks thought their entry fees for the match paid for the nice buckles the classics recieved... but this is not the case, nor has it ever been for the past 8 years the Showdown has been held. ALL THE AWARDS FOR THE SHOWDOWN HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DONATED BY OTHER CLASSICS (alot of classic shooters pitch in to help me with the awards we give out) I have always tried to make this FACT know in post, emails and during the awards presentations for the Showdown. I have never heard of it being a problem till this year, if it was ever a problem at a host club in the past I truly apologize! With all this being said, the CC Showdown will be held with the Butterfield Gulch Gang outside Chapman, KS for the foreseeable future. (TBD if they are hosting the State Championship again in the future) ***** So... For 2025 The CLASSIC COWBOY/COWGIRL SHOWDOWN will once again be held in conjunction with the Butterfield Gulch Gang's annual match 'Siege at Clark's Station' Classic Cowboy/Cowgirl Showdown Hosted by: The Butterfield Gulch Gang Chapman, KS May 1st -3rd, 2025 (Stay tuned for more update) KEEP THE DATES OPEN! *** CLASSIC DINNER Thursday night of the match at Legacy Kansas again? *** *** If anyone would like to help out for awards or such for the '25 Showdown give me a shout! *** *** Ol' Skool 1860 Henry '87 Lever Will be an "extra" award (Concho maybe) given out and not their own stand alone category. *** Is this also going to be Kansas state match do you know? Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 (edited) Hope you folks have a great turn out and great match! I will not make it next year as I will be shooting the Alabama State match that weekend. If you have read my travel thread I am working on shooting Cowboy Action in all 50 states and have done 27 now. Worked out my travel calendar for 2025 and 2026, and next year will attempt to shoot in 12 new states, Virgina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Ohio. Here is the map showing what I have done and what is left. There is a promotion for 7 of the Southeast State Championships in April, May and June; Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. To participate in the special seperate competition you need to shoot in at least 3 of the 7. Last year they did this for the first time and had about 60 people participate. Here is a link to the thread https://forums.sassnet.com/index.php?/topic/375632-magnificent-seven-2025-the-seven-return/ Since I will be shooting in South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama I have entered. They need at least 4 or 5 in a category for it to make as a category by March 1st 2025. I signed up for Classic Cowboy so it would be great if some more Classic Cowboys would sign up and shoot at least 3 of these state championships. Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Just posted on the M7 thread "We already have three Classic Cowboys, we need at least one more, preferably two." Come on Classics you can do it! 1 Quote
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 (edited) Below was just posted in the M7 thread answering my question and it shows we only need one more Classic Cowboy to sign up and we will have a category. 15 hours ago, Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L said: So how many shooters do you have now and which categories have made so far? We are up to 44 shooters! Of course we have the top man and top lady, then we have our 'standard' categories: Cowboy, Cowgirl, Gunfighter, Duelist, Frontier Cartridge, All Around (Cowgirl/boy), Senior, Elder Statesman, and Grand Dame. These are based on both who has already signed up and who I'm pretty sure will be signing up based on the last two years. Then we have: Frontiersman and Lady Wrangler which already have enough shooters to be added. I anticipate adding Classic Cowboy as I only need one more, a young gun category of some kind, and Outlaw.
