Krazy Kajun Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Scarlett sells cast bullets, Clean Shot powder and also APP and is a really good supporter and vendor for the SASS community. Her website is https://bulletsbyscarlett.com/ . Kajun
Texas Maverick Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 I use 125 gr bullet and use 3.3 grns of CleanShot. Have used this formula for over 6 years in both my pistols and rifles and have never had any issues. I also get my powder from Scarlett. TM
Wild Eagle Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 I use 3.2 grains of Clean Shot behind either 105 or 125 grain bullets at 1.500 OAL in 38 special cases. Works great, and the 125 grain boolits give me a little more oompf for the plate racks. For 147 and 158 grain boolits, I would load up a few with 3.0 grain and a few with 3.2 and see how you like them. I'm a fan of the Clean Shot powder. Use it for 9mm, 40, 45acp, 45 colt and cowboy 12 gage. Nice recoil, burns clean except for the cowboy 12 gage, not temperature sensitive, or position sensitive, and is usually priced right. I'll also throw in another thumbs up for Scarlett. You will find "cowboy" load data on her website.
Youngson Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 I load 158 grain RNFP with 3 grans of clean shot in .38 special.
Marshal Fire, SASS 10064 Posted August 29, 2024 Author Posted August 29, 2024 When I searched Scarlets web site as well as the web site for the powder company Lovex I could not find any data for 147/158 grain cast bullets

Jim Brown Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Here is some data. Clean Shot Powder Load data shows both 125gr and 158 gr starting load at 2.5gr- so with 147 should be ok as starting File Shooters World Load Data - Clean shot is 2nd to last page Clean Shot Cowboy Load Data.pdf Shooters World Load Data.pdf Clean Shot Powder.pdf
Imis Twohofon,SASS # 46646 Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I use Cleanshot for all my cowboy loads, 3.1 Gr in .38 and .357, also in 9mm. For LPP I use 4.4 Gr in .44sp and Mag, also in .45acp for WB. Not to be left out I use 14.4 Gr in 12 ga. It is good stuff. Imis
Blackwater 53393 Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I just bought a five pounder of Clean Shot!! I will be trying it out soon.
Rattlesnake Slim Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 You'll love it, especially the way it meters through a powder measure.

Woodchuck Willy 114613 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Just going through this load research also. Here is what I have come up with so far: .38 special : 3 Gr Clean shot, Magnum Winchester primers .44 mag: 4.2 Gr CS, WLP primers 12 Gauge: 13 Grains CS, pink wad (WAA12SL equivalent), 7/8 oz shot, one cotton ball on top of shot. Oh - Remington Hulls, Win 209 primers. The Pistol loads feel identical to the Choice Ammunition Cowboy factory ammo. The shotgun has very light recoil and the cotton ball provides a nice snowing affect when shooting. Fingers crossed it will knock down the shotgun targets. Haven't tried it at a match yet.
McCandless Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 For loading with Cleanshot, I used Scarlett's data and settled on 3.0 grains with an overall cartridge length of 1.485 I do recommend dropping down to 125gr bullets when you next buy or cast them. No problem with knockdowns as the velocity is faster using the same amount of powder. Anyway, 3.0 is a good starting point and if you want even more oomph to kill those pesky charging rhinoceri, you can tweak your load.

I too shoot 7/8 oz smokeless loads. I carry a couple of heavier, factory loads on my belt for out-of-calibration shotgun targets that need to be hit harder.
