Hi, anyone happen to know of a good gunsmith in Houston who can work on Uberti pistols? I have a 1872 opentop that the cylinder is now free spinning and won't lock up.

Thanks,

What Chickasaw Bill said.  Really easy to fix.  Shouldn't really need a gunsmith, someone at your club can probably help you, or youtube videos can show you how to do it.

Allan Harton likely will be booked for a year out or more.

Nate Kiowa Jones will work well -  Steve Young, Steve's Gunz, Lampasas, TX (512) 564-1015

(from past work and he's also on the SASS gunsmith list in the FAQ pages)

good luck, GJ

Chickasaw, it is indeed the bolt/trigger spring that has broken. I have already ordered a new one. I was hoping to just drop it off at a gunsmith as I have little free time. However, with the waits times involved on some gunsmiths, just fixing it myself will be the fastest way. LOL Do you happen to know if the flat springs on these break often? (may want to order extras)

Thanks!

I bought a Heinie Colt trigger/bolt spring for each of my Colt SAAs & 2nd. Gen 1851s.  They've pretty much been a drop in part.  The flat springs will break!  At the most inopportune time!

Sir

they will break once in a while , I tended to keep some on hand , when I was shooting

I tryed the wire springs , and did NOT like or trust them

I think I have broken 3 over the space of 15 yeqrs of so , sayin that , I expect one to break any time now

if ya got the part on hand , it does not seem to fail

Al Harton is up in that area.  He has worked on 4 or 5 Colts for me.  Always reasonable prices and more importantly I have always found his turn around times to be accurate.

Aint that just the way of it! LOL

I will put in an order for a few more, they are cheap and it's better than missing shooting opportunity. Thanks!
