Time to Go

Recommended Posts

I have thoroughly enjoyed my 20+
year involvement with CAS and with SASS-the friendships and camaraderie most of all.  The wins, close losses and outright defeats.  Across the face of our great nation.  From club matches to National and World Championship matches. I had my share of time on the dais.   My years as a  RO Instructor, Match RO, Arizona Ranger and Match Director for everything including State Championships.  But the passing years and frailties of the body and mind catch up with us all eventually.  For me the time to go has come. I love you all.  May God bless you with many years of shooting as he did me.

I hate to hear this Amigo. You were one of the first folks to welcome me here. Via con Dios.

I've only enjoyed you for a few years and a couple of matches - and I have reaped the benefits of your friendship and kindness.

Happy Trails my Friend !

Say it's not so Cas, just a joke. If not, it's been a pleasure shooting with you. Please come see us often. All the best and God bless you!

Golly Hoppy,   A few more years and I was gonna catch up with you in the matches.

Honestly, the few matches we both attended were extra special to me because of your involvement.

It was your choosing the past couple years to shoot in the GF category, instead of Elder Statesman GF category,

that prompted me to do the same.

I feel honored to call you 'friend' and we always had good conversations when we crossed paths.

You have been an inspiration...... no doubt.

Here's wishing you well in your years ahead.   You'll be missed.   And may The Force continue

to be with you.

God Bless.

I've enjoyed many a Saturday shooting with you in your time in GA and also many state matches as well.  We've had some great discussions and "thought we solved" many a world problem sitting under the awning of a camper.  You are one of the good ones and you'll be missed on the shooting stages but just know you are always welcome to the fire.  Godspeed in your future endeavors.

Cass, I'm going to miss you on the range.  You've been a good friend for many years and we have solved many world problems sitting under pavilions and awnings all over the Southeast.  I've enjoyed your friendship and I wish you and Lisa many more years of happiness.

I no longer compete.  Back when I was heavily into Martial Arts, we had a couple of Emeritus members who could no longer participate physically, but would travel to a big event or two. They got to  visit their friends and share stories, but also add value based on their lengthy experience.  Just a thought - worked well for them and us.  A beer or two worked as well.

Deb & I are very sad to hear this. Enjoyed shooting together many, many times over many years. We had a great friendly competition, even though we shot different classes. But, unless you had an unfortunate(?) train wreck, you always seemed to edge me out.

We hope to see you again whenever possible, & you always have a place to stay in Georgia (as long as you bring the Buffalo Trace).

But have you shot in Western Canada???

Courtney B.C. on Vanvouver Island puts on a Great Shoot, and the Island (bigger that one of your States) is really pretty...

All the best to you whatever the future holds...

Certainly true how this life goes in that direction. When it cools off a little here in Texas, my brother and I will shoot again. It's his first year in CAS and my 20 + year. We are certainly not fast, but it is lots of fun. I've been retired a year and he just retired. I feel sure that old age and health issues are here to stay.

Thanks again for all the generous comments and kind wishes. Such friendships are the lifeblood of SASS and cowboy action shooting generally.

Cassalong, I remember when you first started in the game and your devotion to all you have done in the game and for us the shooters, your partners. It was always a pleasure to posse with you and attend the matches you put on.

Going to miss you, but can also understand that there comes a time and I'm getting close to that point also for various reasons besides age.

Hope to meet you down the Trail and share some Tall Tales sometimes.

Good Luck my Friend.1

Cas, you were one of my very best ROII Instructor students!  You also were a distinuished graduate of Sawyer's Shooting School!  I took the road you are taking a few years back.  Like all roads, the journey is what you make, I believe you will have a great journey.  Best Wishes!

I am very sorry to hear that you are hanging up your spurs.  Holli Docaday and I will certainly miss seeing you and will always remember the times we spent together on the range and at the banquets at the Florida matches.

As I tell the shooters in our area that have "retired" from the game, "Stop shooting if you feel that it is your time to do so, but come to the matches, hang out with your pards, and sign-up for a banquet or two".  Some matches even offer a "Conventioneer" category that gives you a shooters badge, a ticket to the banquet, and lets you shoot on side-match day, usually for just slightly more than the cost of the meal.  Keep that in mind down the road.

Visit when you can, you will be missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing you,

Dogmeat Dad & Holli Docaday
