I never saw the desert in a toilet paper roll, but all the rest are very familiar.....and I want my  Corning Ware casserole dish and lid  back right now!

I’m pretty sure my mom still has several pieces of Corning Ware!

 

We saw it at the New York World’s Fair in 1964 and she ordered the casserole and the skillet on the spot!  Other stuff followed.  The day she dropped and broke the skillet was a day that “shall live in infamy”!!

I have had Ding Dongs in foil. It was probably 1969 or 1970. You had to buy a box. The individually sold ones were in plastic, 2 to a pack.

 

I was a master Jiffy Pop popper, according to my Mom. I could do 2 at a time and never burned them.

I'm about as far away from Canada if you can get and still be in North America, and I've never seen foil wrapped ding dongs.

I could never make Jiffy-pop.  It always scorched.  And it was expensive compared to regular popcorn  

 

And the regular bread for hotdogs was the normal way.  Buns were for special occasion parties and company or Knights of Columbus picnics.

On one of those SOUTHERN THING videos, a guy mentions taking a Little Debbie Swiss cake roll fresh out of the freezer.

Now, I had never tried that, but it sounded interesting. So I bought a box for the first time in 10 years or more. Frozen - them things is good.

Up here they were known as "Mello ice cream Rolls".

I've never seen any with ice cream. All I've ever seen had orange sherbet in them.

with aluminum foil.   And don't forget to shake em before you drink em.

 

And don't forget the little 'Vitamin' you could buy in elementary school for 1-cent while going thru the lunch line.

I'e had every one of those and still have a few today like the wooden bowl. I'm in my parents house, it's mine now, and my mom had a lot of these things. We always had Nestle's powdered chocolate!!

I remember them all.  I never had fried bologna, tho.  We ate ours raw.  Hot dogs on bread was SOP.  Hot dogs on buns was for picnics.

Foil wrapped Ding Dongs?  Absolutely.  My wife bought a box for the first time in I don't know how many years.  When I first grabbed the box out of the pantry I thought of them being foil wrapped.  I knew they wouldn't be, but I thought of it.  I didn't think about the fact they would be 33% smaller than the originals.

I saw an episode of mash. This would be the late 70s, so I was out of high school by that. And they're going through the chow line, and Hawkeye put a hot dog on a slice of white bread. Held the bread in the discharge of the steam tray for a little bit, to get it soft enough so it would bend, but he put a hot dog on the slice of bread. And I thought that was so cool. I had never considered that. Bread was for sandwiches and toast. Hot dogs were on hot dog buns. Hamburgers and sloppy joes were on hamburger buns. We never ate that stuff on sandwich bread. Truthfully, I didn't even know you could.

 

It's like growing up putting actual cream in your coffee. Never occurs to you that you could also use milk, because you use cream. That's just the way you do it.

You had to keep the pan moving at a high rate of speed over the burner. You couldn't just sit it down and let it pop. Once you got the hang of it they worked.

Boy, all of those pic's bring back memories, oddly all good memories.

 

I remember Ding Dongs in the foil but it really didn't matter if it was foil (or if it was the Swiss Rolls) or plastic, the chocolate icing was always stuck to the wrapper. Even the one shown...guarantee the chocolate is stuck to the foil.

 

The candy cigarettes that I remember actually came in a "pack". Sugar with red, food coloring red flame at the end of cigarette.

 

I used to get the Life Saver book at Christmas as a gift every year. I had forgotten about the Butter Rum Lifesavers, those things were gooooood.

We used to get licorice "cigars" and "Tobacco Plugs"

My Father and I would sometimes pig out on them and get Mother annoyed, because of our stained teeth. 

She preferred the Strawberry Twizzlers, so that was Dad's "Forgive Me" treat for her.

Regarding “Fried Baloney”; I hated the stuff. It gave me monster headaches. The same for SPAM. And, believe it or not, corn curls. 

I learned years later it was because of the nitrates and nitrites in the stuff they called meat. As for the corn curls I have no idea why they gave me a headache but cheese doodles did not.

The penny 'vitamins' probably were for stopping the headaches from eating fried baloney (Bologna).  😀

 

If I recall, those 'vitamins' were a Cod Liver Oil pill.   In elementary school, they were kept in a bowl, next to the cashier, at the end

of the lunch line.   And yes, they only cost 1-cent.   This would have been around 1957 thru 1963.
