Marlin one piece firing pin sticks

the firing pin appears to hang up in the bolt at the protruding opening. Rounds hang up while cycling ,thing they are catching on firing pin , may be bent?

Howdy Lumpy.

I'll share all the info on the test and results/fix.

As you know, there is an instant spot in opening the lever that retracts the firing pin.   Without trying to type out 

how to test whether its a lever issue, firing pin issue, or bolt channel issue, its probably easier to talk with Harley

and then determine the situation and cure.

If its actually the Firing Pin, the cure will be fairly easy and simple........ assuming its not the firing pin alignment with the

firing pin hole.

I had to smooth the FP hole in the bolt of my '82, .44 Carbine to get the one piece FP to slide easily.

UPDATE:

Fatboy Harley contacted me and basically, he had already checked out the firing pin and it appeared that it

wasn't hitting the hole in the bolt as smooth as needed.   Actually, it had a slight bend in the pin.

He replaced it with a new pin, which seems to be correct and sit inside the bolt channel correctly.

 

His new pin freely 'rattles' inside the bolt when he shakes it.

 

He also checked the functioning of his firing pin in relationship to the lever being slightly opened.

With his hammer cocked and the FP flush at the rear of the bolt, he SLOWLY and slightly opened his lever to see the firing pin

protrude rearward about 1/4"..... which it should.

With the lever still slightly opened, he pushed forward on the firing pin, which made the lever 'jiggle' just a little,

then when he removed his finger from the rear of the firing pin, it freely pushed backwards again about 1/4",

which tells us there is no drag or resistance on the FP inside the bolt channel. 

 

Lumpy, I hope I explained this situation and not made it confusing.

 

When 'some' One Piece firing pins feel 'sticky' inside the bolt, its caused by the front shape of the one piece FP in

relationship to the shape of the front of the channel cut inside the bolt.

To remedy this type situation, the 1 piece FP 'collar' area can be slightly rounded to remove its edge.

NOTE:  The collar is the area of the FP where the angle shape meets the diameter of the FP body.

This shape doesn't always fit right with the inside of the bolt channel at the front section.

Personally, I don't know.   I aint sure anyone has ever given me a pre 1900 model to check out.

I lucked into an 1899 44W about 2 years ago.  Really nice, but I haven't used it in a match yet.  So, far just target shooting.  Functions nice, but was considering lightening the mainspring, the lever plunger, the lever safety, and a one-piece.  I have 2 guns on the bench before that, so I'll get to it once't I find a round tuit.
