Idaho Gunslinger
That's a first for me... Would it be stupid to put an anvil from a spent primer on there and use it for practice ammo? Seems like that might be worth a shot vs just chucking it. This is rifle ammo if that matters any. Though I guess I could set it aside for when I do some pistol ammo again. This was in a 5000 pack. The first 4 sleeves I've used were fine.
Kingsley
You're that concerned about .08 cent's? Throw it away.

Mack Hacker, #60477
I will check back later on this post to follow the normal trajectory. First come the catty responses. Then we get the frivolous attempts at humor. At some point, someone will attempt to offer a serious response. That will be immediately be contradicted by a rebuttal of the serious response and the fight is on. Wait for me to get my popcorn ready 4 1
Idaho Gunslinger
To add my own catty response, it's 8 to 11 cents now but in 2025 it'll probably be 30 cents I'm saving... or possibly infinity cents when you can't find primers again for 2-3 years... Kingsley
I was not throwing out a "catty response", it was a serious response. Do you really want to try and re-insert an anvil into a primer? I would not do it, but what the heck. It's your fingers. If you're betting on the 2025 prices, stock up now when you can get them for .08 cent's each. If your paying .11 each, your paying too much. Search around. I can get them all day long for .08. Good luck for primer prices, and re-inserting an anvil. And Mack Hacker, another "catty response", why don't you try and insert an anvil into a primer and let us know how it works out. Good luck, serious. I wish you luck for a .11 cent saving. 2
Idaho Gunslinger
It worked just fine. Took me like 10 seconds to pull an anvil out of my spent primer bin (they end up separated in there anyway) and set it on the primer. Seated just fine and cracked off from my rifle first try. Guess I'll know that for next time. I'm young and new to the game. I've been buying whenever I found them for 10 cents or less before shipping/hazmat. In 2022-2023 I was paying closer to that price. More recently I've been buying them for under 10 cents to my door. I scored 5000 Federal Match LPP about six months ago for 4 cents each to my door. I thought it was a typo and they would cancel my order but they showed up. 3
Kingsley
well, congratulations. Good to know, my concern is do you know how much of the primer combustible compound is actually still in the cup. Definitely keep these rebuilds for practice only. Again, I was not trying to be "catty" with you at all, I've just witnessed too many accidents with ammunition to think this practice is safe. .04 cent's, what a score!! Good job buddy. Cardboard Cowboy I didn't feel like your response was catty. It was the 100% guaranteed response I was expecting. With our super light cowboy loads I think there is a pretty good safety margin. I'd just be sure to mark it for practice and make sure it was the last round shot in said gun just incase it was a squib.

Abilene, SASS # 27489
In the past 25 years I've had two primers that looked like that (both Federals). To think that I threw them away! 1

Silver Creek Jack
Arrrrrggggggg!!! I just opened ten boxes of 1000 fed primers searching for just 1 anviless primer so I could try it and wouldn’t you know, dammit everyone was intact. Thought about pulling one out of a good primer and putting it back but that would be cheating, So disappointed. 1
Lonesoms Al SASS37893
I also found one like it. Not a big deal, but now how many more will I find out of the 5000 I purchased.

I’m thinking it was never put in to start with, probably a glitch in the assembly process.

There is a dent in the compound so I think an anvil was in there at some point but I looked around on my bench and the floor around me and never saw one anywhere so I'm assuming it fell out during the packaging process. But that's just speculation.

Just like those dang stages that have 11 rifle rounds! 2
