Basically an actor with a LOT of COMMON SENSE and not a career politician out for money and power to feed their greedy needs. Forty Rod SASS 3935
My Dad, Mom, and I were watching this when he made that comment. I thought Dad was goinf to hurt himself laughing so hard and for a few days he'd spontaneously break out in the snickers. Mom never got it. 3

WOLFY
Long ago, I worked in H'wood with folks who remembered him as an actor. He had a reputation for being very bright (as in looked at the script a couple times and never needed to reference it again).
Will Kane
My very first memory of Ronald Reagan was watching him host General Electric Theater every Sunday night in the 50s. Although I was just a kid, I was impressed by his apparent sincerity, especially when he gave GE's "progress is our only product" spiel.

H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
I remember this. A lot of people think that's when he won, and even when Mondale realized he'd already lost.

Henry T Harrison
It was Ronald Regan that signed and supported legislation to cut our social security because he thought that because we had a police pension we were double dipping

Some did. Some didn’t! My dad was allowed to continue to contribute to both in the law enforcement department he was employed by. He did and drew full benefits from both. My wife was employed by the county school system which provided a teacher’s pension from the state AND took SS contributions as well. She draws full benefits from both. Reagan didn’t do that to you!! Your employer did it!! Edited August 20 by Blackwater 53393 2
Badlands Bob #61228
The government agency decided to opt out of Social Security. You didn't pay into it and Social Security was substituted by a pension. I'm drawing full pension and social security from my law enforcement career. The county school system where I retired from opted out of the social security program and those retiring teachers only get a teachers pension. 1
Jackson Haller
I think President Reagan handled the press, speeches, opponents, debates etc so well, because he trained in and survived a ruthless Hollywood. He was a long time survivor in a 'grind them up, spit them out' system for decades and learned how to handle reporters, paparazzi, co-workers, studio company people etc who could be cruel, vindictive and tricky and out to get him. Being SAG president and then CA governor injected even more of the nasty political aspect and allowed him to polish those skills to a razor's gleaming edge. I can't think of another politician in my life time that did as well verbally as he did with those out to get him.
