Horace Patootie, SASS #35798 Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 I have an 1886 Winchester which was made in 1887 according to my letter. Not really a collector as at some point it was reblued. I was shooting it after one of our matches recently and noticed that recoil had allowed the mag tube to come forward. I did not previously know that the mag cap has a piece that goes into a groove in the underside of the barrel, instead of a screw that goes through the mag cap and into the barrel. Also, I recently watched a video from Cinnabar Ranch on youtube of shooting an antique 1886 in 40-82. He had the same thing happen on his gun. I reassembled mine but don't know if it will stay that way. Could possibly be in part the mag tube hanger but I don't know that. Apparently, this can be a thing with 1886 Winchesters. What say the wire, for those of you in the know ? Horace
