sassnetguy50
We're all familiar with the term "buyer's remorse". Is there a term for when you regret making the decision not to buy something? Example 1) You pick up something at the store then decide no and place it back on the shelf. On the drive home you start regretting that you didn't buy the item. 2) You are bidding against one other bidder on an item and decide not to continue bidding. Then you regret not buying it after the hammer hits or even hours later.

Pat Riot
I have done it many times but here’s the biggie that always comes to mind. Years ago, ‘99, I think, at a Gun Show I was walking by a booth where AR-15s were being sold for $425 each. On a table lay a Shiloh Sharps 45-70. I asked about it and the guy said he traded an AR-15 for it. I asked the price. He said “I don’t know. I don’t know anything about those so, how about what I traded it for? $425.” Like an idiot I decided to walk away and think about it. I literally went maybe 20’ then turned around to see a guy laying money in the guy’s hand for the Shiloh Sharps. 3

But if it’s a consolation, I’d bet a nickel that rifle was stolen. Nobody who actually knew what a Shiloh was would trade it for a $425 AR.
Tex Jones, SASS 2263
At the soft opening at Cabelas in Hamburg, PA many years ago I saw a 1903 Springfield NM on the used rack for $300. Looked at it twice thinking about it and the third time it was gone.

Rye Miles #13621
Yep it's happened to me a few times! I had a chance to buy a unfired Colt SAA in .44-40 when I was shooting BP and I passed. It was a decent deal too. Right here on the Classified. I went back two days later and it was gone!

Pat Riot
One other occasion that stands out for me is a S&W model 10 (don’t recall dash number) was sitting on a table at a gun show. The price $400. I was with my nephew and he was looking for a .38 revolver. I pointed out this model 10. It was immaculate. The man selling it was selling his personal guns. You could do that in WV up until this year. The man said it was a night stand gun and he figured it had 150 rounds through it at most. My knucklehead, I mean Nephew said “I need to think about this .” I pointed out the shape of this gun was really almost new. I should have bought it but let my nephew meander around “thinking about it” and decided “Heck with him. I’m buying it” It was gone. I did tell my nephew that his BS of having “to think about” things was getting da**ed old and that if he says those words to me or around me again I was going to kick him in the arse. I mean it too.

Forty Rod SASS 3935
I suffer from "Dumb Ass Syndrome". Over the years it has hit me dozens of times...and there ain' no cure for it.. Worst one was nearly prefect Merwin and Hulbert Army, nickel plated, open top, birds head grip, chambered for Winchester 1873. Back then they were asking $450.00. I walked away about fifteen steps, turned around and went back.....just in time to see another man hand the owner the money.

Ozark Huckleberry
Kinda like FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out, but different -- MOR, Missed Opportunity Regret? Unfortunately, missing an opportunity usually gets overblown, so the next time a similar opportunity comes along, the judgement is a bit off. Red Gauntlet , SASS 60619
Then there's 'not-buying pleasure.' When after long work life you have some extra money, and can look at good stuff and think, I could write a check for that right now. But you don't. You don't really want it anymore, or whatever. It's a nice feeling.

Just went I want that and that one and that one
J.D. Daily
My not buying remorse was in 1971. Flying home from my tour of duty in VN the plane stopped in an airbase in Japan. During the stop we deplaned. While wandering around the PX I spotted a Nikon 50x300 zoo lens. At the time Nikons were fair traded so there were no deals in US. The price for the lens was less than half the fixed price in the US. I wanted the lens but not so badly that I spent the money. At the time my daughter was less than a year old and I was saving money because we thought we'd tour Europe in a VW bus in a couple of years. Never did the VW trip. Minutes after re-boarding the plane I knew I blew it. I never bought a Nikon zoom lens.
Forty Rod SASS 3935
My wife bought me a Uberti 1873 rifle from Santa Fe Arms for Christmas 1982. I had never hears of SASS or CAs at that time. Two years later, with an insurance settlement in my hand, I walked out of Winston's Sporting goods leaving behind a very nice model 92 rifle. I was kicking myself all the way up the hill. I went home and the phone was ringing. J. D. at Winston's. "Tom, get back down here. We just got something in that you'll be interested in". I went back, did the paper work, and waited three days for my purchase to refuse to shoot anyone on their own, a broght home a Uberi 1860 Henry....and a 1866 Yellow Boy. Three Uberti .44-40 24" octagonal barrels rifles. I stopped kicking myself...for a little while. I still have all three, the cornerstones of my collection of rifles.
SGT. M. F. QUINCANNON, #32999
I was offered a swap once- I owned an Uberti 2nd Dragoon from Western Arms, and a guy offered me a military Remington Rolling Block, French contract, IIRC. I declined. Still have the Uberti…
