Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
I have been to the Western Regional hosted by the Chorro Valley Regulators many times. I was debating not going this year but when I heard it will be the last shoot at the range I booked a room and made plans to attend. The range RV parking and other facitlities are first rate. BUT it is not just the range and shooting that make this such a great event. It is also the location. It is literally just 5 minutes from Morro Bay and the temperatures are always right at 70 degrees. It was 115 in Phoenix when I left for the shoot but the temps at Morro Bay ranged from 68 to 72 with clear skies. The location is simply idyllic. In a few weeks the range will be gone. Here is the clubhouse. Some of the stages with some background scenary provided by the local hills. Some more of the soon to be gone stages. The Last Chance Saloon and the big tent where the prime rib dinner is served on Saturday night. The dinner was always excellent and they used real plates and silverware. Now for part two of the location - Morro Bay. Some of the docks. A pair of Sea Lions sunning themselves on the rocks right next to the sidwalk. Having a steak and lobster dinner and looking out the window at the Morro Bay rock. I hope the Chorro Valley Regulators find a new range but I fear they will never find another location with the charm of Morro Bay. 3 5
Dead Eye Jake
You mentioned that the range will be gone. What's going to happen to it? Tearing it down to make room for something, perhaps? Rebuilding it, hopefully? I've never been there or to California for that matter, just curious. Jake
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
The range is on State land and has been there for 32 years. The State is closing them down. The club has to try and find a new location.
Yul Lose
This was one of the best Western Regionals I’ve ever attended and the Saturday evening banquet was outstanding. Listening to Sinful (the match director) addressing the closing of the range before the banquet was a tough one and it’s clear that he’s doing everything that he can to stop the range closing or find a new home for the Western Regional. Talking to a few old timers up there I got a sense that closure wasn’t inevitable so let’s all keep our fingers crossed. Went to dinner at The Dutchman 2 nights and enjoyed watching the sea otters and their antics right outside the window and the food was excellent too.The sleeping bag was very welcome during the night because it got a little chilly where we camped at the range. Left the range at 6:30 sharp yesterday morning and pulled into my driveway at 1:10 in the afternoon, hardly any traffic to deal with on the 101 after the 405 split it was clear sailing home to north San Diego county. 3
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
What a shame! Leave it to California to throw away something that generate tourist revenue for the area, and prolly some money for the state as well. But... That ain't a lobster. (I'm from New England!) 2

I suspect the tax revenue from that range is not even a zit on Newscum's ass. This state is such a bummer.... 1

Hells Comin
Larsen on Friday at Morro bay it was in the 50's breezy and flicking cold. The whole weekend was fantastic with great food at all the beaches as well as the banquet. This has to be one of the friendliest cubs that I've been to. ( California no less) lol

Doug E Turtle
In CA it's not just the ranges, it's anything to do with firearms, it's a second-class right at best.

Dusty Devil Dale
It was indeed a great event, as has been the case every year. CVR commits 100% on every detail, and the flow of the match and many side events reflects their huge effort. Thank you Sinful (Match Director) and CVR! Larsen, I enjoyed finally meeting you in person and possying with you for the three days. It's always fun to have a face to go with the names and posts here on the Wire. IMO, we had a great posse and a great time. Hopefully we can meet up again at the Western Regional in future years. We are all hopeful that something can be worked out with the State, to allow the venue to continue to be used by CVR.
