Shooting videos

I know probably very few of you are on Ticktock but SASS and other shooting venues are. They post videos of people shooting even Mounted shooting. The majority of them have music playing sometimes so loud you can’t hear the gunshots or steel ringing. Anyone else bugged by this?

Please don’t respond if you’re not on TicTock🙄

I appreciate anyone who puts in the time and effort to put CAS videos on the net. If their artistic impulse leads them to put music in, that’s fine — I don’t really mind but I always have the volume control.

It’s the medium and audience that drives some of it, I suppose. One way to pull in new shooters is to put out content they can relate to, and TikTok seems to be the ‘loud music’ medium.

However it hits the net, I just appreciate what these creators do.

If you mute the music you can't hear the shots and the steel ringing or the balloons popping in mounted shooting. That's what I don't like about them!

I keep commenting about them to no avail so I just unfollow them. BTW not all have music in their videos but the majority do!

Yes, tictok is a nonstop sampler of annoying, incongruous music.  Does the music help the poster get past the ai filters or is it an attempt to keep kid's attention?

I am bugged by how few actual training videos  about CAS exist.

Best Wishes

PS I am also bugged by my forgetting to buy more Nannas for my Nanna splits

Are you serious? Well, it’s like Facebook. Instagram. X (Twitter) and about a half a dozen other social sites.

Don't have any of 'em. Don't miss them either from what I hear about 'em.

Yeah, like Sgt CJ, I don't do any of those. I'm more of an in person type person.

OK, I don't TicTock or whatever.  But one generic problem is using GoPro cameras.  My daughter-in-law gave me one for Christmas.  It was awful.  Difficult to use and sound sucked. After testing it I put it back in the box.  I watched CAS  videos where the sound was awful.  All gunshots were "puck", "puck", "puck" with no difference between pistol, rifle or shotgun, black powder or smokeless.

Phones often do the same thing. Has to do with how they process the audio.

Two more points.  Most of these videos are probably shot with smart phones and upload as is. 1) I bought a Boya shotgun microphone that actually concentrate the sound recording directly in front. I comes with a "dead cat" that reduces wind noise. 2) I use edit software on the PC to adjust sound levels.

Ironically,  my POV camera glasses record the best sound. I'll often use the sound from this recording but video from other cameras.

I have not shot any videos and put them on TicTok but there’s a button to “add music” to your video. I still don’t understand why they put music to a shooting video but I’m an old curmudgeon so there’s that!
