The Kid has his set up on a "Hazard Fraught" (Harbor Freight) grinder stand. Handy and portable!

Blackwater 53393 Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I decided to move the Rock Chucker back away from the edge of the table. I have it set so that I can place a fifty round shell holder in front of it so that I can take the loaded shells directly from the holder to the press and then put ‘em in a box. My primer station is set up to the left. The powder measure is between it and the press. If I use the sizer/depriming die, I can come straight out of the press to the tray, move the tray to the priming station, prime the shell, measure in the powder and set it into another tray to do the nitro cards, wads, and then on to the shot. At that point, I wind up back in front of the press to do the over shot card and crimp. We’ll try it and see how it works. If it doesn’t, I’ll change it around. That new stand makes it so that the lever never comes close to the table top. The little shelf under the press is great for storing my shell stacker, shell vise, and my metal cup that I use for all sorts of stuff. New press position on the table. 12ga shell tray. Notice the shelf? 10ga shell directly under the lever at its lowest position. 10ga shell tray.
Blackwater 53393 Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 I figured I ought to update this for those who followed it a couple of months ago. I had occasion to try the 12ga sizing die on some brass shells this morning. The last time I talked about this, I was still using the factory lever and the press was attached at table level on the edge of the bench. I had to practically jump up and down on the handle to get the shells through a full sizing cycle, this with case lube, and I had Schoolmarm sit on the corner of the bench to hold it down while I pulled the lever back to the top!! This morning, I removed the depriming pin to check a couple of plastic shells that didn’t look quite right to me. While I was at it, I grabbed a few of my brass shells and ran them through the press to see how much difference the new handle and the strong mount makes. WOW!! The difference was daylight and dark! Without any case lube, I was able to cycle the brass shells through the die with minimal effort! It squeaked a little at the bottom of the stroke and and just wiggled the bench slightly to start the upstroke. I had roll crimped some 10 and some 12ga shells after making the changes, but I figured I would have to fasten the bench to the floor, (and I probably will anyway) before I could size these things! PRETTY COOL!!!
Rip Snorter Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Many years ago, I designed a base for the Rockchucker and had a local welder make it for me - nicknamed it the UpChucker. Yours is apparently commercial, who makes that? Much better when the press is elevated. I notice in the first photos that yours was only partly bolted down. I assume that is either no issue or it has been fixed. When I got my 550 I sold my Rockchucker - dumb. I had to buy another one. IMHO they are an indispensable item for a serious reloader.

Older photo. I was experimenting with different positions on the bench. The mount and lever are from INLINE FABRICATION. They make good stuff for many different brands and models of presses. Fast delivery too!!
bgavin Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Inline Fabrication makes some seriously high quality mounts. Very impressed with mine.
Rip Snorter Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Probably cost more to to have Dave make it at least 10 years ago, but having designed mine and named it has amused me the whole time. It is major league sturdy.
