I loved the episode of Miami Vice featuring Willie Nelson as a Texas Ranger. He still carried his trusty Colt .45 SAA because that was the gun he knew best.

Rory Calhoun often played anti-heroes.  The guy that was on the edge of villainy, but had some principles that were redeeming

 

In the case of his character in River of No Return, he was the villain.
