Alpo
I know they will work with ferrous metal. I've used them to cut conduit. But I want to do something with some copper tubing. I don't want to cut it all the way through, so a tubing cutter will not work. I suppose I could use a hacksaw, but if these will work it will be so much quicker. The Original Lumpy Gritz
They will clog with soft metal.
Cypress Sun
A tubing cutter won't go all the way through if you tighten it in minimal increments. If you don't want the indentation so sharply embossed, you could always intentionally dull a tubing cutter wheel. You could use the Dremel style bit/cutting wheel pictured also if you practice and have a variable speed tool as they are hard to control without practice. Good luck.
Alpo
That's what I was thinking, so I figured I would ask before I screwed the pooch.
Injun Ryder, SASS #36201L
I have used those on copper tubing with no issue. 1

Alpo
I'm thinking about making a moon clip demooner. I've made them out of steel. A piece of electrical conduit would work wonderfully, if they made 3/8 electrical conduit but I have not seen any of that. I have some heavy wall copper tubing, and a 45 drops down it nicely. So I need to cut that little tab onto the end. You can see why a tubing cutter would not work. This might not work - the copper might be too soft, and bend instead of prying the empty case out. But the only way to know for sure is to give it a try.
Subdeacon Joe
For the minimal amount of cutting that you're going to do those should be fine. Better yet, if you have a burr tool, use that.

If I can make one out of scrap I have around the house.
Alpo
Back in about 91 some guys at work made me one. On company time, using company equipment, and starting off with a company owned 4 inch long 3/8 stainless steel nipple. That worked fine. It disappeared 4 or 5 years ago. I've got one of these And it works, but I prefer the other type.
Rip Snorter
Those Dremel cutting wheels are amazing. Have done many tasks with them. However they do unexpectedly shatter on occasion. Face shield or safety goggles a necessity.
