Yul Lose
Mrs. Lose and my oldest daughter are watching the opening ceremonies and I watched it with them during a lunch break. To me it was hard to follow all of the stuff going on and the drenching rain probably didn’t help some of the things they wanted to do. For a supposed commercial free event it sure had a bunch of commercials. The goofy torch bearer might eventually be identified but I’ve seen enough.
Subdeacon Joe
A couple of days ago on a FB thread about the Olympics I made the comment that the opening ceremonies would likely look like they were designed by a committee composed of Bosch, Picasso in his later years, Dali, and Escher. They seem to be living down to my expectations. 1

Subdeacon Joe
Interesting that you mention a horse. That mechanical horse was pretty darned cool. Same for the entrance to the stadium and the flag bearers falling in behind the real horses. So, mostly weird (I did like Lady Gaga, and the body suit in the fashion show) the first 3 hours, but this might pull it up to an overall C+. Black Angus McPherson
I only saw a couple minutes of it, but, what I caught was a bunch of decapitated Marie Antoinettes lining the Seine and standing in red lit windows. I'm still shaking my head and wondering "XXX?" With the large..hmmm, well,...uh, hostile...umm, historically violent, uh, population that's moved into the country I wouldn't think they'd want to be giving them any ideas. hmm, got changed to "XXX" I guess I should have just written out "Well That's Funny" Angus Edited July 26 by Black Angus McPherson censored

Father Kit Cool Gun Garth
I've always wondered about countries that host the Olympics and the cost to put on such extravagant productions, which seem totally useless to the overall purpose of the Event itself. I understand making the facilities to accommodate the Event; however, the production costs could be better used for the economy. After all, France's national debt was around $3.19 trillion in 2022, and the cost of interest on the debt is over 1,600 euros per second. France has one of the highest national debt levels in the world, and its public debt has been increasing since 2008. Just MHO.

Forty Rod SASS 3935
I gave up on any Olympics the year our hockey team beat the Soviets. I don't know why so many people I have always thought to have good sense subject themselves to this trash..... but it's your time to waste. I feel the same way about other "Gee whiz look at me" events....like the Academy Awards as an example. If this wasn't LBG?????, or whatever they're calling themselves today, grooming of the World's children, then I don't know what is. There is a word for it...DISGUSTING. 2
Subdeacon Joe
OK, to be fair to it, that mocking of the Last Supper, was only a tiny portion of the 5 or 6 hour program. Most of the rest was just the general French glitteraty passion for being weird and avant gard. No, they wouldn't dare mock mohammedeans that way, nor would they think about using blackface instead of femface. But there were some fantastic routines in the men’s gymnastics qualifyings, the mixed air rifle was impressive, and the women's kayak slolum is amazing. I have no idea what murder, political assassination (attempted or accomplished), a former president or the Final Solution has to do with the Olympics. Likewise, I have no idea what transvestite portrayal of The Last Supper to do with the Olympics. The reason I can see for the disgusting portrayal, was to attempt to influence children and younger people into their 'way of life' as many children/young people from all over the World were watching. That in itself is grooming in my opinion. I won't be watching the Olympics, but not because of a disgusting portrayal of The Last Supper although that would be enough to me to be the proverbial 'last straw'. I haven't watched the Olympics ever since they started letting in many of the (so called) sports that have nothing to do with Olympic sports in the traditional manner. It's not about the games anymore and hasn't been for many years now. The only thing it's about now is MONEY and lots of it. It's too bad, I used to enjoy the games back in the day...not now.

I don’t know if it’s grooming, it darn sure is conditioning on two levels- of their lifestyle as acceptable, which many at the least, don’t want their kids to witness. I, nor you, have to accept this. Or accept them. Or they us. Second, sacrilege of Christian tenants and beliefs is acceptable, along with reprobate representations of Christian imagery.

Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
I'll watch! At least, I'll watch the events that interest me ~ and perhaps "peek in" on a few others. I enjoy good athletic competitions; the debacles of the opening ceremonies (and as @Subdeacon Joe pointed out, it was only a small part of the ceremony) were not the fault of the competitors. And THEY should not be made to sacrifice their years of hard work because of some misguided sponsors or organizers (or politicians*!). *Under order of then President Jimmy Carter, the U. S. boycotted the 1980 Moscow olympics. I worked with a fella who was on the Track and Field team - don't recall which discipline - who had worked for years to make the team. He was downright disgusted. Now, there was a reference above to new "non-traditional" sports. Again, folks can do like I do - watch those that interest you, and ignore the others. Regarding "new" or "traditional" sports, I'd remind all that there have been a BUNCH of historic events that no longer exist; these include such "time honored" sports as steeplechase... standing high jump... 100-meter running deer and dueling pistol shooting events... and dozens of others. As long as they don't allow any Lia Thomas's, I'm okay with the "O's." 1
Rye Miles #13621
Okay so some of the opening ceremonies were disgusting and really in bad taste, but not all of it. Celine Dion was great! I’ll watch the sports I’m interested in and for our American athletes. They put in a lot of hard work. They shouldn’t suffer because of the disgusting woke people that run the ceremonies especially the French president Macron who said he loved the trans bull$&)&!
Marshal Dan Troop 70448
Some of the events scheduled for the Olympics aren't my cup of tea and shouldn't in my opinion be worthy of Olympic included events. What makes them so "Olympic".. Badminton-Tennis-Skateboarding-Basketball-Beach Volleyball-Canoe Slalom-Handball-Judo-Mountain Biking-etc. Only thing missing is Dish Washing and Clothes hanging. I lost my taste for the Olympics and the French's tasteless Drag depiction. Be interesting to see viewership total for this.
