Euphemisms for you’re getting old.

Rice Krispy joints.

My right knee pops when I stand up.  I ask folks nearby if they heard it, and many say yes.  I tell them that's my good knee;  truth!  My left kneecap is still in two pieces.

I'm not an antique, I'm a "classic collectable"....so there!

Problem is no one makes parts for a 1942 model anymore.    On the other hand, the thumb's on the wrong side.

No, seriously, I'm within a couple of thousand bucks of matching the Bionic Man!

Getting older is a challenge, but still a blessing.

In the 80’s I read this quote and decided to do my best to follow it. So far I am on track.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!

When you know more dead people than alive.

Losing about one a month these days.  Many more are hanging on by a thread.  About 2/3 are younger than I am.

Hard to decide whether to mourn their loss or celebrate my own survival.

You should have a clue when most of your doctors start retiring!!

I tell people all of the time that I have reached two of the three major goals in my life!

1: I have lived long enough to amaze my friends!!

2: I have lived long enough to really piss off my enemies!!

3: I have almost lived long enough to spend all of my kids’ inheritance!!

We were swimming at a nearby lake a week or so ago, one of the adults asked if any of the kids were still in the water.

I told her that every one born in this century  was back at the cabin.

She thought a minute, then said, ‘That’s funny, but I hate it.’

I can't complain too much about getting older...I had too many friends that didn't get that privilege...and I have outlived by far what most people didn't expect me to make it to

I'm the first male on the paternal side that made it past 37! Turned 70 this past May! And I had more opportunities to get myself injured/dead than they did!

My Dad used to say old as my gums and a little older than my teeth, older than dirt, and so old he went on the ark with crutches. There was a movie where somebody was being trained by a really ancient Korean guy, he asked him how old he was and his answer was "For an apricot I am very old, for a mountain I am not yet begun in years, for a man I am just right."

I’m certain that I have told this story here before!

After graduating high school, I decided to go drag racing with one of my friends who had money.

We just worked on the car all week and raced on weekends at sanctioned events. We also did the “Street Outlaws” thing long before it became a thing, (forty years before)!

After a couple of years, we both settled down a little and got regular jobs.  I got married and moved away for several years and my buddy went a little rogue, eventually losing his life in a traffic accident.

I basically dropped off the grid as far as any of my schoolmates knew.

Years later, Schoolmarm was at a local convenience store, (many miles from my old neighborhood) where she wrote a check for some groceries and a tank of gas.

The cashier looked at the check and exclaimed, “There’s only two people in the world with that name and I know one of ‘em is dead!”

After some discussion, it was decided that I was NOT dead and that I was living nearby! Turns out that I had been declared dead twice in the program for my high school class reunions at ten and twenty years!!

You talk about looks of surprise, confusion, and in some cases, consternation when Schoolmarm and I rode into the Marriot on our motorcycles for the thirtieth class reunion!!

Long teeth comes from old horses.

My dad once told a story of a guy bragging (to sell a horse), saying he rode him hard for a mile and the horse did not even draw a single long breath. My dad asked how many short breaths he drew...

Dave Stamey said it all for me! “I’m not old, I’ve just been used rough.”

Just for reference I turn 80 next Pear Harbor Day.
