Yeah, people make fun of Glock model numbers but give S&W a break. I should always put “8-shot .357 Magnum” behind “model 327”.

You're aware, I'm sure, that the original Smith & Wessons had something stamped on the top rib in Cyrillic.

A friend of mine had a Russian mail order bride, and I went over to his house one day and asked to have it translated.

 

Number 3 Russian gun company. A Uberti Italia

 

I thought that was kind of cool.

 

 

I've always wanted to have that engraved. Not being a fan of the swirlies that is what most gun engraving is, I wanted oak leaves and acorns. But I never could afford that.

 

So I got the grip done.

 

And had a holster made.

Every day carry is a 1957 vintage Colt .38 Detective Special, 2" 6 shot with a Tyler T-Grip and no other modifications.  Solid 95% gun and fits me like skin.  Steady diet of Hornady Extreme Defense loads riding in an Italian Vega "Vampire" upside down shoulder holster.  Took some fiddling and trial and error to get it comfortable, but it sure works nicely when you finally get it right.  Sorry, no pics.

 

I'm looking for  really good S&W Model 19 with a 2" (2 1/2" ?) barrel like one I had long ago and far away (1971, Peoria, Illinois.) but I could go to college for a semester or more for what they are going for.

 

Of course there aret my two 5 1/2" SAA .45s, a modified 1875 Outlaw, a Uberti first model American 8" in .45 Colt, and a few more wheel guns that are just too big for wearing every day.

My favorite; started life as a square butt Model 65 357 magnum - my Dad and I did the round butt conversion, added the trigger guard spur - had a heavy barrel turned down for the octagon; fitted real elephant ivory grips and then had a very talented southern Michigan engraver do the traditional hand chisel and hammer scroll work.

 

I have maybe three firearms that I would never part with - this is one of them.

I had one of those in Vietnam when they first came out.  Bought it from someone who was rotating back stateside.  Mine wasn't nearly that pretty but it rode nicely in a small of the back holster that I had made for it.

 

I gave it to my battalion adjutant when I came home.

Uberti doe's a Amazing Job on The S&W No.3's

I have several No.3's By Uberti & By Different Importers .

My First one was the First Model No.3 American in 44 Special by Cimarron. 

I'm sure I paid way more then I should have .

But it's a rare gun in a rare caliber.

And I had to have it .

Another favorite. An Uberti, (I think) imported by Intercontinental Arms, which in the late 60s became Interarms. So this one has some age on it. 

I got it cheap at a pawn shop looking like it'd been a stunt gun in the movies. I stripped, sanded, and refinished the grips, cleaned up the gripframe, and cold blued the barrel and cylinder. When I do my part, it shoots one hole groups at 10 yards.

The brass grip frame reminds me of the one Steve McQueen used in the original "Magnificent Seven."
