SASS Henry Big Boy…if anyone is interested.

Recommended Posts

Lol I bet they sell a lot of them

I have several Henry rifles and I love them for what I use them for .

They just don't lend themselves very well to this sport .

Hey Rooster et All,

I ain't the fastest kid on the block any more.  No even close to fast.  I haven't own'd a 38/357 in Lustrum(s).  But that Big Boy is actually some good looking.  I think I want one.  Don't really know what I'd do wid it, but it is some cool lookin.  Hummmmmmmmmm.

Nice looking rifle but as was said not for this game and that’s why I have lever actions.
I wonder if they chopped off almost $700 off the price because SASS members are just not buying them.

I have a .22 Henry, the plain one and it’s a great little rifle.

Hey Rye!!

I agree.  It sure ain't for going fast, but heck, I'm old-n-fat-n-slow.  Just might be fun.  Plus it's real good lookin you betcha.  The more I look at it, the more it "grows" on me.  Just fer fun, not fe goin fast dontcha know

I have a Henry X model - definitely not a SASS gun - but right out of the box it had and has the smoothest action I have ever encountered on a lever action rifle.
They have a long lever throw, just like a Winchester ‘94 only a heck of a lot smoother.

I handled one recently in 360 buckhammer

It was nice and smooth but ridiculously heavy

will stick to my Marlins in 30-30 and 375

I think the Henry feels bulkier but the weight is okay. It feels like it is about a half pound heavier than my Winchester 94 carbine and about equal to my Marlin 336, but it’s girth or width makes it seem heavier.

I added some weight to mine by adding a scope and accessories.

I have said here many times .

I bought a new in the box 44 mag and took it to a local match the first time out .

I am not fast nether by any stretch of the imagination.

I shot a clean match with a brand new Henry straight out of the box.

With that said .

It still not  very well suited for the game of Cowboy Action Shooting.

A stock 92 or even a 94 is better suited for this game.

But I'm No gun snob .

Run what you brung  !

Now the .22lr on the other had is a great little gun for the game .

Exactly ;)

Believe it or not this Henry is fun as all get out to shoot.
I belong to a gun range where they have steel targets of all sorts from 15 to 100 yards. Smacking steel with 255 grain 45’s at 100 yards is a blast. Pun intended. ;)

Dang fumble fingers

I'll never be a fast shooter,

but when it comes to having fun, I can shoot my Henry Big Boy at a decent pace once I find the right ammo.

I used a Winchester 94 Trails End for years. All I heard from the peanut gallery was “Buy a new better gun”. “That gun sucks. It’s too slow.” Blah, blah, blah…

I shot CAS to have fun. I firmly believe in “dance with what brung ya!”. I didn’t have a lot of disposable income back then and I wasn’t dumping my 94, Vaqueros and Stoeger SxS to please some other person because they were way invested in the game buying everything everyone else told them to buy and thought everyone should be like them.  Misery loves company I guess.

I still have my Win 94 .357. I have repaired it with new parts 3 times now. It’s a gun I will never part with. Me and that ‘94 had a lot of fun together. :D

I am sure it’s the same with your Henry.

Henry’s jam? That I haven’t heard. Mine hasn’t but I have a limited experience of only 1 Henry.

Everyone I’ve seen at a cowboy shoot has jammed or has had trouble feeding. 🙄
