Tell Me About Branson, Missouri

Recommended Posts

Our Weekly Trash pickup here is about $200 per year.  Private companies, not included on the utility bill.  I pay for a year in advance to get a discount.

My wife and I are also moving to Missouri. We are both from there and moved to Florida about 8 years ago.  We are moving back to be near my aging parents.  We will be relocating further north just outside the Kansas City area.  I am looking forward to shooting with the clubs down around Branson.

I was asked to help a buddy who is running for state representative at a rodeo in the spring at the county fairgrounds. He had a little booth set up with games for kids so he could chat with parents. My job was to make sure the games were running properly. I wore my SASS rig with pistols, as you can see in the photo. The county sheriff walked by and stopped, looking at my guns/belt. He said, “Damn, I gotta get something like that.”

Now that’s a red state.

I got our utilities bill in the mail today, for  June 7 through July 10.  It's the highest bill we've had in 18 months.  ( It was HOT, used more electricity for AC than usual). Today's bill for water, gas, electricity, and sewer is $344.18 total.

All the other bills for the last 18 months were under $300.

How does that compare?

We run under $240.00 in the summer and $200.00 in winter.

1400 sq/ft all brick single story house.

I set the A/C at 70* in the summer, and the heater at 66* in the winter.

We have a sewer fee of about $1.05 @ day on our utility bill.

I'll throw my hat in this discussion.

I live on the Lake of the Ozarks in MO.

About an hour and a half from Branson.

Awesome fishing on this 94 mile long lake with beautiful views.

There are 4 SASS clubs within an easy drive and you could shoot every weekend if you want

You'll love the price of license plates also.

See ya when you get here.

I live outside Jefferson city. Coop electric, own well, geothermal water furnace house stays set at 72' all year long all electric. A high use bill is $230 a month. Trash with local company is $90 a quarter but I've been to lazy to shop around I can get it for less.

Beautiful country with a department of conservation that's world class. Lots of outdoor rec opportunities. Most of em free

Here’s another plus. In Columbia, MO they make Grilla Grills and smokers. These are from the new Silverbac model.

I shot a work Shirker's Wednesday match at powder creek when I was up there in April.  Really enjoyed shooting with them and they are going to be one of my regular clubs.

I don't know the circumstances where you were, but before we moved here, with Illinois drivers licenses, we were able to handle several guns at a shop in Branson. If we wanted to buy one, we would have had to make arrangements with an Illinois FFL.

Interesting story.

Note that I said Handguns. We looked at several long guns. We were told if we wanted to purchase handguns we would have to do it at their website and have it shipped to an ffl in our home state. reminded me of being in CT and being told we could not handle or purchase reloading supplies or ammo without the proper papers. If I remember correctly my concealed carry permit is good in MO. Rather odd.

There are several (few) states which consider a carry permit the same as NICS checks while current; maybe more accurate to say the Fed considers valid permits the equivalent.. Still needs to get called in to NICS for non-permit holders.

Tennessee would be like this except Tennessee has a few additional restrictions so the NICS check is also a TICS check, and is also run on permit holders (as things may have changed since issuance, like a DUI).

It may have been that particular store's policy.  Did you encounter the same problem in other gun stores in MO?

Not wanting to derail the thread, but I find these quirks interesting. When did this happen?

At one time, there was Title XXVI, Chapter 407.505. It restricted long gun sales only to adjacent states. This was repealed in 2011. I have not identified a replacement.

On edit: A gun-grabber group rates Missouri 48 out of 50 for its horrible lack of restrictions, so that is pretty good!

Go solar.  I've saved about enough to pay for a new Jeep in the ten years I've lived here.  Didn't need a Jeep so I bought guns instead

What stores was this?

Have never been asked for ID until purchase.

That is really weird.  I visit several gun stores in MO everytime I visit my mom.  Never had an issue looking at any firearm.  I have bought 3 handguns over the years form various mom and pop stores. Store personnel are always surprised when I have a copy of my TX FFL's license on me.

Never had an issue with them shipping a handgun to my FFL in TX.

Never have tried to buy anything from a nation wide chain store. Likely it wouldn't go as smoothly.

It could be corporate policy nonsense.

Bass Pro HQ here in SGF won't let you cycle or dry fire a firearm.

Have you been to Cherokee Firearms in Springfield?

It's a great store and has It's own shooting range.

Another one is Eagle Armory.

I'll have to check them out the next time we're up there.

PS: If any of you come down to Heber Springs, Arkansas, check out Heber Gun. An old fashioned gunstore, really friendly, I love working there because it's such nice people.

Haven't been to either of those. Will add them to the list.

Steve's Trading Post in Joplin is one I stop at as it is right on my regular route. Before obummer they carried a lot of reloading supplies. Now not so much.

Osage Thrift in Sedalia is one I always check out.
