Subdeacon Joe Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 July 17th 1964: British speed pioneer Sir Donald Campbell set a new land speed world record of 403.1 mph in his car, Bluebird CN7, Powered by a specially modified Bristol-Siddeley Proteus free-turbine engine driving all four wheels. the car was designed to achieve 475–500 mph and was completed by the spring of 1960. During the record breaking run, Bluebird's top speed registered over 440mph as he crossed the finish line, but averaged 403.1 overall. (Ian A Biddell) credit: National Motor Museum.Beaulieu.
Blackwater 53393 Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Campbell set and established numerous speed records both on land and on water. He died in an accident while attempting to set a new world record for power boats. Campbell died Jan. 4th, 1967.
