In the previous post my opinion was that Crooks was a clown who didn’t know what he was doing using an AR as a sniper rifle and couldn’t shoot.

This was obviously incorrect! I don’t know if he used a scope-probably-but it was a hell of a shot, even if it wasn’t at extreme range!!

Trump is obviously the luckiest man in the world!!
But for turning his head at the right moment he’d be dead!

I feel sick to my stomach thinking about what might have been!

I am not sure why you think an AR can’t be used as a sniper rifle. I have seen many that shot sub-MOA consistently with quality ammo.
I owned one that I assembled that was crazy accurate. I sold it for sone odd reason. It was one of my cheaper ARs to assemble. I bought the parts on sale.

I have a Ruger SFAR in .308 that is proving to be a very accurate AR as well.

I’m not a big AR guy, though there are a few hanging around the house. I’m definitely not a sniper either, but a head shot at 400 feet with an AR doesn’t seem that challenging.

If it had a scope I would think it would be a pretty easy shot, other than the knowledge that counter snipers will be shooting back very shortly.

I’ve shot an AR that I used to own at 100 yards  with no scope and did pretty decent!

The Missus asked me about that. I told her even with a decent red dot he should have been able to hit him. "Buck fever" and the thought he was gonna draw counter fire probably saved President Trump's life.

An AR can be accurate most sub$800 ARs are not much better than 3" at 100 with standard factory ammo.

If most shooters HAD to make that one shot count, we would not pick an AR, but a quality scoped bolt gun.

As a young Marine, I could usually shoot a "possible" (10 rounds in a 24" bullseye) from 300 yards in a prone firing position with my M16A1. So half that distance with a modern rifle wouldn't be too hard.

So yes, Trump was VERY fortunate. Even he said, "It Was God Alone Who Prevented the Unthinkable".

I noticed how the MSM is pandering the "AR" label around.
There are a whole lot better long guns for that intended purpose, than a 223.

A modern 270 deer rifle shoots flatter and more accurate at distance than a short barrel AR.

I figure the perp (MSM sez "registered Republican" who donates to Leftist causes... who does THAT?) was shooting what he had.
If one was going out to intentionally assassinate a high profile figure, and get themselves killed in the process, why not take a more formidable weapon better suited to the task?

The country was lucky DJT turned his head at the moment the shooter fired.  I heard Tom Gresham say the county  sheriff said an officer encountered the shooter on the roof seconds before the 1st shot.  It was said the officer was investigating a ladder to the roof by climbing it.  At the top of the ladder the officer retreated down the ladder when he faced the shooter who was pointing the rifle  rifle at him.

AR's are accurate rifles.  My bone stock 1999 vintage Colt Sporter with heavy contour 20" barrel in A2 upper receiver is a sub MOA rifle with 62 grain Lake City ammo.

I don't think this kid had a political view or motive.  Asking about his motive?  Look at his picture. He was driven insane by a lifetime of being different, looking different, being bullied at school.  He was never going to date a cheerleader,  never get laid.  He decided to commit suicide in a way that he would be remembered.  Trump coming to his home town gave him the opportunity to be a historic figure.  He was not the type to travel across the country hunting a politician, the politician came to him.

Mentally ill? Certainly.  Preventable?  Only with better security.  Because bullying in schools will continue as long as "different" kids attend.

Probably registered as a Republican to try to vote in a Primary to skew the results.

He used the tool he had available, an AR-15 type rifle his father purchased.  For a <150 yard shot fired from supported position a 5.56x45 is a plenty good tool.  If the .224" dia 55 or 62 grain bullet had entered DJT's skull it would looked like the 6.5mm Carcano bullet that passed through JFK's skull in 1963 Dallas.

I don’t think that shot is really as easy as some want to make it out to be.
Do we know if it was scoped, red dot, irons? A head is 10” by 9” ? , irons or red dot would completely cover the target.
What was his shooting experience or familiarity with that firearm? Climbed up on a roof, shooting down ward, assuming he doesn’t have the best shoot rest. Adrenaline, heart racing, knowing your probably going to be killed. Go try and hit a 10” circle under those conditions.
Yes, Trump was very lucky.

Very possibly, for obvious reasons, things like that are kept discreet. But if the shooter expected that. it would explain why he went for a head shot instead of the larger torso shot.

PS: I do appreciate your Skynews calling out CNN and the Tiktok Trash on their bias'.

Not knowing anything at this point except it was an AR platform...

From 3-gun (AR-15 5.56)  and AK (7.62) competition experience with iron sights (and I'm not a great shooter), for me 100 yards on an 8" circle supported is 2 out of 3, unsupported is 50/50 at best. Center or edge hit scores the same. Shooter managed an edge hit.

Purportedly Trump turned his head.  And BTW, he played golf this morning!

I doubt he played golf this morning,  he was staying at the golf club in New Jersey. If he played golf this morning it would have been all over the news!

Cooking dinner, about to be eating, but the news is where I found the info.  Not in the habit of making things up.  There was even a picture. I'm sure you can find it if you exert yourself.

I tried looking it up and couldn’t find anything. It would be nice if you could post what you found.

Pretty shocked to see people saying this whole thing was staged in interviews.

Reading some of the bile and vitriol in the comments on the FB pages of Kamala, Congressman Mike Thompson, and California State Senator Mike McGuire are downright disgusting. "Trump would have given the shooter a medal if he had shot at Biden" (dozens of those on each page)
"NRA loon can't shoot"
"Bet he changes his stance on Gun Control!"
"How did he stage that?"
"FAKE!  It was a paintball gun!"
"Shame the guy missed"

EDIT TO ADD:
Equally disgusting is that we got better, and less biased coverage yesterday watching Skye than any of the US Big Corporate Press outfits.  Almost no rhetoric from the announcers/news readers.

That's fine.  When I read it, though, I thought, "Yep....I can hear him calling his wife and saying that!"  People react to gallows humor in different ways.

Just like now, I wonder when someone will come up with a .45-47 wildcat round.
