ISO 12 guage stagecoach gun

I am a shooting sports instructor for 4-H in prescott valley az. Next year we will be adding western heritage shooting sports to our club.

We are super excited for these kids to learn cowboy action shooting and our rich western history.  We are looking for a Cimarron 12 guage side by side hammered coach gun or something similar. Everywhere I have looked they are out of stock. Does anyone have one they are willing to part with?

Let me check with my niece. I bought one for her when she was in Western Heritage and she has now aged out and might part with it.

Ot, but we met a group of 4H kids and ladies at the gun show in the spring. They spoke excitedly about their new Western heritage shooting. We talked for quite a while! Good Luck with your new adventure.

Hiya Ike! CZ also makes a new hammered Coach gun. Baikal and Rossi are ones to watch for on the used market too.

Does it have to be a hammered double? If not, the Stoegers are a good value and tough guns.

Ike, I actually sent my name to the local 4H here to see about starting this same program. So I am following your progress with a great deal of interest.

Howdy Ike:

We started hosting two or three 4-H Western Heritage Shooters here in Masury, Ohio this spring with the Shenango River Rats posse.

I was told that they must use 20-gauge shotguns and that's what they are using although the kids are only shooting 2 shotgun targets per stage.

How come your kids get to use 12-gauge?

Their ages are 14 years.

They like the sport, and they have a lot of fun.

This month they're at the county fair with the animals.

I'd be interested in any information you'd care to share, Ike.  Thank you.

I have the big Montana book.

All the best,

Slow Mo Dern

I did a 4-H shotgun class over 20 years ago. It was very informal. I had a clay bird thrower that you can sit and pivot on. I bought light target loads and featherlites. The kids varied in age. I told the older kids who could handle the light target loads to save the featherlites for the smaller kids. Plus there was a little more shot in those shells to increase their chance of breaking the clay. This was all 12 guage.

I bought a 26" Stoeger double and cut down the stock and installed a recoil pad so I had something for the families who didn't own a shotgun. A teenage girl was busting the clays including asking to try doubles. She nailed both clays several times. When her parents came toward the end they saw her successfully shooting and were flabbergasted to learn she was shooting a 12 guage shotgun. Last I knew of her she went into the military and later became a police officer.

Hi Slow MO Dern

It varies from state to state. In Arizona under twelve that can shoot rifle and shotgun and the shotgun can be 12 guage. 12 and up can shoot pistols, riffle and shotgun

Thanks for your quick response, Ike.

Our kids are 14 years, and they shoot .22 Henry rifles, Heritage revolvers, and their 20-gauge shotguns with factory ammo.

They use no holsters but must stage the handguns.

Our kids are very sharp, and I was surprised how much they knew about the hardware being that young.

We'll probably see more of them when the county fair is over.

Thank you for your information, Ike.

Cz would be a good choice. But parts for the Baikal and Rossi are getting pretty hard to find.

Something to consider.

A search turned up the following. The first few are hammered.

Good luck!
