Inquiring minds would like to know. I bought several cases of Federal large pistol primers about five years ago. They were $154.00 a case. Works out to $.0308 a piece! I checked yesterday and I have about 6lbs of Solo 1000 left and 7.5 lbs of International Clays. The Solo was $140.00 for 8lbs when I bought it and I bought two jugs. The Int. Clays was given to me. I have several other single pound bottles of smokeless, all but two of which were bought several years ago. Then there’s a rather large amount of FFFg and a recent acquisition of Goex Cartridge. I used to buy a couple boxes of bullets every time I went to a big match! $25.00 or less was the going rate for 500 .45s or a thousand .38/.357 and I made use of funds on hand. I mostly bought from SASS vendors whenever and wherever possible and still do. I just made a deal for more powder with one of our prominent vendors! I still have bags and bottles of shot that I bought ten years ago!! I actually bought shot from Shootin’ Fox a little over a year ago because I forgot that I had some squirreled away in the garage! Some of that old shot was $20.00 for 25lbs!! I have been mostly unable to shoot for the last few years, but I have continued to build my inventory. I can sit in front of a reloading press for as long as I want without putting unnecessary stress on my bad foot. There’s times when I avoided going batshit crazy by going into my gun room and spending a couple of hours reloading or working on a gun or a press! Besides CAS ammunition, I have other shotgun ammo, lots of ammo for my semiautomatic pistols, hunting rifle ammo, tactical rifle ammunition in steel and brass, and some nasty pistol caliber stuff for the Blackhawks and the lever action rifles that can use it. My current cost on a .45 Colt round, depending on what it’s for, is between $0.10 and $0.20, the CAS round being on the cheaper side of the scale. A CAS smokeless shotgun shell costs around $0.20. Those prices will probably increase dramatically if and when I have to replenish supplies of some of these components, but that may not be for several more years! In the meantime, I sit on my branch or the rocky shelf on a mountain and gaze down at the world below like a cagey old buzzard, looking to pick off that next great deal!!
Jackaroo, # 29989
So OK none of you on this thread ever buy any new loaded ammo. So if no one is buying new loaded ammo then how do the likes of Choice Ammunition, Ten X and Bullets by Scarlett keep in business? Sooner or later you need to replace the brass you've lost, so why would you buy just brass when you can buy newly loaded cowboy ammo with new brass and you get to shoot what you've bought and save the reloading time.?? Those companies are selling new 38 special with Hi Tek coated bullets with cowboy power factors for 68 cents/round =$680.00/1000 The reason I ask is that I have approx 1000 rounds of new ammo (same spec as Choice or Scarlett's stuff) with 125 and 158 I'm never going to use and only asking $500.00 And all packed in Caseguard boxes plus shipping or transported to a range near you or it can be arranged. Hit me up.
DeaconKC
Okay, before I started working at my gunstore and could watch for .45 Colt brass to come through, I did buy from Choice specifically to save the brass. Their ammo is good stuff, but loaded to light Cowboy levels. Edited July 13 by DeaconKC

Hit me up. I send an e-mail to one of our local shooters who purchases new ammo. Regarding where I get brass to reload: Gift certificates from Starline brass Range brass from concealed carry classes and my local range Nickel-plated brass no one wants but I load for revolvers. Regarding saving time, my Dillon progressive press cranks out ammo so quickly it takes little time.
watab kid
never been able to really calculate an accurate cost , i bought 100 brass once but all the rest were from the range free - 1000s of 45 colt , 38 s&w and 4570 , all my hulls were once fired and were free as well , also 1000s , i have over 5k loaded shotgun alone , powder i bought back when 8lbs was $100 and a bot of primers at $30.1ooo , i have traded for some recently at $55/1K , im fine for a good long time yet , two of my current reloaders were free , as was my hornaday 366 - its gone and both mecs i was using were free , they too are gone and the PW im using now cost me $300 so i dont have a lot invested save for my scale and dies as well as a couple really small items like a funnel , my plan is to shoot long as i can and reload long as i shoot , when time comes tpo hang up my guns im going to gift my gear to younger starting out cowboys - no need to line up yet as im not bowing out in the near future , but i intend to pass my good fortune forward best i can , the mecs went back to original owner as they were his step fathers [a shotgun author of note] i did basically give the 366 to a cowboy , ive sold a few sets of dies for shipping so far , life is good - we gotta enjoy it while we can , cant take it with ya .................
