That’s too bad, might be a challenge to find another range capable of holding it in the future.

First time there 2009. Fantastic shoot. 2012 also fantastic shoot. 2016 last time there still a fantastic shoot. Best of the Best shoots. It was also a shame that they could not keep the shoot and call it as the John Wayne shoot.

So sorry to see this happening and do hope they find another place to hold same.

Wow! Is the rest of the range closing? The Hogue pistol range up by the highway? Are they going to use the cowboy town area for something else? That's too bad.

According to the email from the club the entire range is being closed.

Cowboys and Cowgirls…

After 32 years of cowboy shooting on California’s Central Coast, things are changing for the Chorro Valley Regulators...

Some of you may know that CVRs’ range is a tenant on California State land, but you may not know that the site was a military ordinance test range during WWII. After much deliberation, the state decided that it is time to recover any un-detonated ordinances, and scrape the top 6˝ of land to remove as much of the lead as possible from our range and from our neighboring clubs' ranges to make the property safe, and to refresh and rejuvenate the land.

Their work will begin in September 2024 and will include the complete demolition of our range and our neighboring clubs' ranges.

If I understand it correctly it will include the back portion of the area, the part on the other side of the bridge. It will take out the Muzzle Loaders range, the Small Bore range, the High Power Long range and everything to the west of the Bridge. I don't think it will effect the SLOSA public range or the Hogue range. they are both up on Hiway 1.

there are other reasons that this BS is happening........ but what do I know?!

Same reason the State banned vendors from the match last year.

They will have vendors this year. They will be setting up on the West end of Main Street. This will open things up and make it easier to get around to and from the shooting bays. It will also provide easier access for the vendors from the West end parking area.

Hi all...

Before rumors get out of hand, here's the low-down...

• Yes, after being on that site since 1992, the Chorro Valley Regulators has to move. We we currently looking for a new facility for our club, and several locations are under investigation and consideration.

• For several reasons beyond our control, the State of California is reclaiming that part of the public shooting facility that includes our range and three neighboring ranges (small bore, muzzle loaders, etc.) - what people refer to as "the ranges in the back.".

• The Public Range, which is on the part of the property along Highway 1, and the Hogue Range will remain intact.

• The 2024 SASS Western Regional will take place as planned - August 7-11, 2024 - and registration is building nicely.

• As bitter-sweet as it may be, we will be celebrating the Western Regional and the 29th Annual Chorro Valley Shoot-Out and we have all intentions of it being a gala and very memorable Cowboy Action Shooting™ experience.

• You can be part of this event!  If you always wanted to go to the SASS Western Regional but couldn't for some reason, you can be with us this year by CLICKING HERE to register for both the event and for camping! Please do join us for this last hurrah!

• Wanna watch a 4.5 minute video boasting what folks say about this heralded match? CLICK HERE.

Happy to answer questions via your post here, a PM, or an email to:  roger(at)siminoff.net

We look forward to shooting with you in August!!!

Howdy,

I have looked at the web site, no luck.

What are the categories / distances for long range?

Wylie Fox Esquire...

Long range at the SASS Western Regional  is

• 400y smokeless and 400y black powder*

• 100y and 125y pistol caliber (smokelsss)

• 100y and 125y rifle caliber (smokeless)

All events are 10 rounds and allow 2 sighters.

Most hits in shortest time wins!

Come shoot it!

RR

* if I recall properly ('cause I painted it a few times) the 400y target is 5' diameter.

Ah...

Scope  -- iron?

Good to know, 60" at 400 yards = 15 MOA

thanks,

Iron sights, no scope. And a buddy just shared with me that he thinks the 400y target is more likely 4' diameter than 5'.

Regardless, I see that you're registered, I've seen you shoot, and I know you can hit it even if it was HALF that size!!!
