My wife and I got back from our trip to SoCal on Sunday. Our little house was 86° F / 30° C inside and 96° F / 35° C outside. It has taken nearly 2 days to cool to below 73° F / 22.7° C in my house with the 2 little window AC units we have.
I told my wife we will never again turn our ACs off for a trip in the summer. There’s nothing like getting home from a trip all hot and tired only to lounge about in the heat inside your own home.

As an aside; I like to keep my house at 68° F / 20° C inside in the summer. I like the same temps in winter.
In California I would get threatening letters from the brainwashed idiots at Edison Power telling me that our house uses too much power for having only 2 residents living there. I was told I was using the power of a 5+ person home.
I called them and asked when their Bolsheviks would be coming to reassign living spaces and punish me for the use of the power that I pay for. I also asked them to quit sending me threatening letters and messages . I was transferred to a manager.

I told the manager the same things above and then asked “How ****ing stupid are you people? You make money from the power you sell. You want me to cut my usage to what some Commie thinks my usage should be? Are you all Capitalists or Communists? Which is it?.”

“Ummm I don’t know how to answer that.”

”it figures. I pay my bill and as long as I do shut the hell up about my power usage!” and I hung up.

Here in WV I get my electric bill and a “thank you” for being their customer.
When I was in CA on my “vacation” I told everyone that my power comes from coal and it’s fantastic how cheap our utility bills are.
My comments were met with blank stares or complaining about their power bills. I just smiled.

Our daughter and her family live in Arkansas and keep their AC set on 68.  They started having trouble with condensation inside the walls.

So just be aware that can happen in a humid location.

So you need the bathroom type of sheet rock everywhere.

July 24th.

111 deg in Fresno, Ca.  Just right for getting yard work done.  If you stay hydrated and keep moving (and don't think too much), it isn't that bad.

On my front porch, in the shade, slight breeze wafting through at 1645 (4:45 PM) this afternoon:  🥵

Screw the power company.

I have 30 solar panels and almost every month I get rebated for the electricity above what I use that they have to pay me for.  It stacks up and I have not paid for electricity more than five or six months in the ten years I've lived here, and the worst it's been was I had to pay $48.00 for the $148.00 a month lease on the panels.... generally much less, but I only know it because  my bills tell me I don't get as big a rebate.

And it's so hot flies are stuck to the ceiling of the corrugated metal shed in my neighbors'd back yard.

BTW, night time I keep the temp set at 68, daytime I move it up to 72,  year in and year out.  If Iget cold at night I have a electric blanket which keeps my back from giving me fits.

"But, Tom, if you move to Arizona you'll die from the heat."  I'm in central AZ a mile above sea level and surrounded by hills and mountains. The hottest it's been this year was 103 a day or two and it got up t  105 a couple of times since we moved here.

High 90's/low 100's for two weeks now, and no end in sight. Maybe the worst hot spell I can remember here. It's been hitting 90 inside by mid-afternoon every day. 20+ mph wind today too - all summer, I live in constant fear of a fire coming up the hill below my house. I've lived in this house for  24 years, but I'm six months away from my 70th year, I'm ready for the safety/security/comfort of a small 2 bedroom house in a little Mayberry town with a Super Walmart and a VA hospital not too far away. Hire the kid down the street to mow the lawn, walk to the coffee klatch every morning for coffee & a piece of pie with the other old farts, sleep late on the weekends, and watch The Weather Channel.
