Cholla
I chanced into a couple of pounds of SW Auto Pistol at pre-COVID prices. I would like to use it as a stop-gap powder during the current market conditions. But, in looking at the load data I find nothing for 45 Colt and the powder is so fine, it doesn't take up much room in the case so I am concerned about it being position sensitive. Are any of you using it for 45 Colt?

Are any of you using it for 45 Colt? what bullet weight? the load data on autopistol only shows for 250 grn bullet 9.6grn starting. you could try that and bump up or down from there if using a 200grn bullet.
Tex Jones, SASS 2263
SW Auto Pistol powder is made in the Czech Republic by Explosia and is listed as D036 in their manuals. As Surgeon pointed out there is only one load listed for 45 Colt (250 grs) LFN starting at 9.6 grs/vel 689 and maximum 12.3grs/vel 1033. I don't know how consistent cowboy loads would be with that powder in a case as large as a 45. The data is from 2016 so it's not very current. Perhaps contacting them for more current information might be worth a shot. Email is: propellants@explosia.cz

Wild Eagle
Well, I'm a little jealous of you for this find. I've been trying to find this powder for at least two years with no luck. But, I was not, am not, planning to use it for cowboy loads. It's supposed to be a great powder for 9MM "open" loads (115 grain bullets loaded to about 180-185 power factor). It's similar to something like HS-6 or maybe Autocomp. Slow burning for a pistol powder with a lot of gas to work the compensator. It's not supposed to be position sensitive or temperature sensitive. I would start with about 6 or 7 grains in a 45 Colt under a 200 Grain bullet and see where that gets you. Won't be a squib, but may not be fast enough for you either. Even better, see if you can find a USPSA shooter that wants it and he'll probably trade you for something that would work better for cowboy. Might even get a better than 1 for 1 trade too. Shooter World imports the powder and had their own testing done at the Sig Sauer laboratory in Kentucky. Shooters World is a South Carolina company and I’ve represented them for almost 9 years. The Clean Shot from SW is also very fine. It is not case/position sensitive. My guess would be that Auto Pistol is not though I’ve never loaded it myself. If I can help you with anything let me know. Hugs, Scarlett it is similar to Accurate 5 and Ramshot Silhouette. see pictures.
